A little slow
I was a little disappointed in this book. I really wanted more out of Phury and I think he just went from an alpha male to a beta. I just wasn’t happy with the direction his story went....I hope Phury gets his man card back in later books.

This book was a lot less interesting than the few before.
Out of the BDB books I've read, this one was the hardest to get through. Phury and Cormia just didn't do it for me as MC. Too weak. It was more transitional than anything. The moments I liked were mainly with the three trainees and the introduction of Lassiter.
A sério.

I CANNOT GET ENOUGH OF THESE. Good gracious. I love the characters, the relationships and the world. Thank goodness there's like...13 more :D
Phury & Cormia
It is very hard for me to rate any book by [a:J.R. Ward|20248|J.R. Ward|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1437768069p2/20248.jpg] because while I love the characters, with a few exceptions, I can't seem to fall in love too deep with her writing style too, yet. It is not that her writing style is bad, not at all, I am just not into it 100% yet. So I will ignore that and will only rate the characters that had povs in each book because if I don't ignore that I will never give any book in this series more than two stars.
So here we have povs from Qhuinn, John, Rehv, Phury & Cormia, of course, Lash , and also one random lesser. I hate the lesser's povs really, I understand that some of them have important information in them but I still hate them.
I love all the characters really but in this book, some really piss me off. I thought this book will be about Phury finding his own place in the Brotherhood and also starting his Primale work but it wasn't that completely. He was struggling with his addiction and all the characters kind of ignored it and said "get clean." I know it's not their business to help him actually getting clean because they all have problems, but still, they took his job, his home, it isn't really supportive behavior.
I saw this book as Phury's journey to get better and get clean DURING THE BOOK not in the last 10%, which was disappointing. I already read about him having trouble with his addiction from previous books so I really wanted to see his progress in getting clean. I guess Ward just wanted him to lose everything before getting his shit together, I DON'T KNOW.
Rehv's story was the most interesting to me really. I did the mistake of reading his book before this one because at that moment I thought I will never read all the books in order or some at all, so I already know his story. I think Rehvenge is my favorite character in this series and I hate the fact that I am not sure if he will get enough space in this series. I don't want him to be forgotten after his book so I really hope he will come back a lot.
Also, Qhuinn & Blay I WANT TO READ ABOUT THEM ASAP!!! I can't believe I still have like four books until I get to their story. The waiting is killing me.
So while I have a big LOVE & HATE relationship with this series I want to continue it and I will not give up doesn't matter how annoyed I get.

Just finished my re-read and WOW this book was amazing!! I know people feel Phury and Cormia's romance was short-changed, but I don't feel that way at all. Phury had a tough time dealing with past pain, addictions, a debilitating hero complex, being the Primale, his virginity, his misplaced love for his brother's shellan, etc etc etc that I don't think his love story would have worked any other way and it made the end so much sweeter and so darn inspirational, seriously it makes my heart soar!!
There was soooo much going on in this book, it was nearly impossible to put down. The infamous Blay and Qhuinn PT scene was even better than I remembered, I really can't wait for them to get their HEA, it's killing me!! Z and Phury ripped each other's hearts out, it was brutal. Lash the a-hole on a power trip really shook things up and finally brought excitement to the lesser sections. Rehv and the Princess creeped me out. JM and Xhex with the "say my name" was so freaking hot!
I could go on and on, but to sum it up, this book kicks so much ass!!
Old review to remember what happened:
A lot happened in this book- Lash is the Omega's son, he's a vampire that can go out in the sun and he knows a lot about the vampire world and plans to destroy it from the top down- starting with the glymera; Phury and Cormia got together finally; the Chosen have been released from their duties and are able to live a normal life if they choose to; Tohr is back but doesn't want to live and refuses to feed; Qhuinn is John's bodyguard; John, Qhuinn, and Blay have joined the war as soldiers but not brotherhood yet; Phury is out of the Brotherhood and working on staying clean; Bella and Zsadist had their daughter; Rhev is the leader of the Princeps council which will hopefully help Wrath out but that remains to be seen; the old ways are no longer working for the vampire civilization so Phury made huge steps in changing it and the Scribe Virgin went along with the changes which was shocking...
