Only took me ten years to finish this novella because I had the ebook and I'm so addicted to physical or audiobooks that I couldn't seem to carve out time to read it.

Luck came my way and the audiobook was available. It's a short listen (about 3.5 hours) and was a heartwarming short story about heartbreak and finding love via dating apps. The characters were realistic and the ending was sweet.

This book was the reason I decided to read the whole series, so I could appreciate the character in this novella! Funnily enough, I actually prefered two of the heterosexual couples better - Not that I didn't like our two characters but this was really a victim of its length. I really dislike novellas and this was no exception, I would have loved if this story was more fleshed out the way the rest of the books are. It's super hard to be invested in a love story of characters you barely know.

I’ve heard awesome things about Alyssa Cole so I’d be more than willing to give her other books a try, but this one just really didn’t click to me. The connection between Likotsi and Fabiola didn’t super work for me because I’m not the biggest fan of love-at-first-sight stories and I’m sorry but the sex scene was... not my cup of tea. There’s lots of great f/f sex scenes out in the world and this just didn’t feel like one of them. CHANNEL???? NO.....

Anyway - read this for book club and I’m glad that book club brought Alyssa Cole to the table because she’s a well loved black romance author, which I am HERE FOR. This particular novella just didn’t click with me, I’m sorry!

This was very enjoyable. Cute characters, cute idea. It was quick and fun. That being said I felt pretty bleh about it, not getting to invested in the characters. I think if we had a little more time with the characters and focused more on their chemistry instead of just their story I would have enjoyed it more.

Spoiler Thoughts:
Spoiler
So they did have a sort of insta love thing going on which is not my favorite, but I think it was done okay. I think its fine when characters think that they are in love right off the batt its just really off putting when they start saying I love you and acting like they've been in love for years after 3 days of knowing each other. That didnt happen here, they had time to think about it, and even doubt of the idea which felt healthy.

Although I liked the characters I didn't really care for them. I think its because It felt more like I was being told what happened instead of actually experiencing it. I think that is the reason why I didn't love the book in general.

Quick read, it was pretty cute. I like Litoski’s character, it took me a while to lighten up to Fab because she just seemed like she was playing games. She had commitment issues, but she did have character development. I liked the end. Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it.

Alyssa Cole does a wonderful job of balancing romance and real-world issues. Unfortunately, the usage of duel-times didn't work for me in this story.

Loved this novella. It packs a lot into a short book, a lot of emotion and romance and tension and LOVE. So far Cole is my favorite romance writer because in this and the other book I've read of hers (A Duke by Default) her characters feel round instead of flat and the backstory isn't just padding, it's good story-telling and character-building.

My Rating: ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Reading Order: Interconnected standalones. You can read in any order, but this will make more sense after book 1 at the very least.

General Thoughts: I don't read nearly enough sapphic F/F books, so this was a wonderful treat. Likotsi is a character I've been interested in since she showed up in the other books, and I was curious to learn more about Fab (the woman who caught her eye.) I enjoyed this one. My only complaint was I wanted more of their story. I felt like it ended way too soon. Second chance and dual timeline can be hard to do well, but Alyssa Cole did a good job.

I read this out of order and read this one last, so I'm curious to read more about the author and to see what she does next. If you are wanting a sapphic read featuring strong Black women, this is a good one. I just wish it was longer.

Spice Meter: ❤️‍🔥.5 Not very prominent, but there were some spicy scenes.
