Do you have goals? Do you have trouble achieving those goals? This book offers some great, concrete strategies to help you get out of our own way and achieve those goals that have been alluding you. This cognitive behavioral approach really resonated with me. My work day is filled with behavior modification from beginning to end, so I know the power of antecedents and consequences and their impact on changing or maintaining behaviors. But it is always difficult to apply these tools to my own life. This book includes so many exercises and strategies that you can do RIGHT NOW to change your thoughts and behaviors, whether they are related to work, relationships, health, weight...whatever your goal! ...and that chapter on motivation and willpower -- I will be revisiting that one numerous times! If there is a thought or behavior you want to change in your life, pick up this book.

I read this in late 2020/early 2021 as a buddy ready with some friends from high school. We all found this book to be incredibly insightful and practical. In fact, we still refer back to findings from the book to this day! I highly recommend this for any fellow self-sabotagers (procrastinators, that means you) looking to break the cycle. And, if you really want to take your reading of this book to the next level, get your friends involved! Having accountability buddies while reading this meant I really got my value’s worth out of the time spent reading a book that’s not in my usual wheelhouse.

I love that I decided to go with the audiobook for this one because it helped me to receive the information so much better. Besides the fact it was easier to do the exercises, I loved I could go back and listen to certain parts again. I didn't realize how much I talk down to myself or fail at fulfilling goals because I avoid certain deadlines or situations. It really makes you stop and look into yourself, no joke and find out what is the root to the issues at hand. Dr. Judy lays it out there for you with facts, understanding, and warmth. She makes you feel as if you're learning from a friend rather than hard facts in a self-help book. I personally loved the in-depth self-reflection (I had been avoiding this), the steps she provides to help me to move past some things like my love of procrastination. Its a well done, well-read, a fabulous audiobook that I look forward to listening to it over and over to help me work through my own self-sabotage. Loved it!

As a sufferer of depression and anxiety, and self doubt, I knew I needed to jump on this tour. I need to see if there was something out there that could help me. Especially when I constantly worry about whether I am doing something good enough, if I should have done something differently, am I good mom, etc. Things that make me go into anxiety mode for overthinking.

Dr. Judy Ho brings us a book that is perfect for those with thoughts like mine. It's a book that will bring you techniques, suggestions and over all change to help you overcome those negative happenings, to overcome the thoughts of sabotage in your life.

Dr. Judy's book is amazing. It's definitely one that is worthy of 4 stars. I recommend this book to all who are struggling with self sabotaging ways, like questioning your actions, wondering if you'll have enough money for this or enough time for that. It's the perfect self-help book in my opinion. I look forward to reading more and learning new things to help me improve my life. Well done, Dr. Ho, well done!

I really found this book helpful!! Demystifying and breaking down the psychological reasons we self-sabotage, with really concrete exercises to address and modify unwanted behavior.

The only reason I didn’t give the full five stars is that the author really harps on weight loss— unfortunately I expect some of that from most Self Help books, but it’s always off-putting to see the unhealthy and unscientific attitudes of ”life coaches” towards weight loss.

For example, one of the author’s clients worked out five days a week, ate healthy, but was disappointed that they were unable to lose 30 lbs.

Rather than consider that maybe it was time to reassess their goals, the attitude was “commit to snack less”
— again, this is SUPER common from self help books, but it reflects an ignorance about nutritional science (Health at Every Size forever!) and the AMOUNT of times weight loss was the Go-to example almost made me put the book down several times as just fluff

Overall though I’m very glad I read it! Great tips for dealing with procrastination and self sabotage

A great read with a lot of insights into self-sabotaging behaviour. Helped me realise quite a few things about my behaviour. Some of the exercises were kinda challenging to do, but I suppose that's the point.

Stop Self-Sabotage brings together some of my favorite books and topics. Covering psychology, education, habits, Judy brings together a whole set of tools that, if used diligently and intentionally, will transform life for the better. This book was well organized with lots of examples and exercises to implement the strategies. I like workbook-style approach for books that have practical takeaways, and Stop Self-Sabotage was perfect!

Each of the six steps in stopping self-sabotage process were well defined and backed up Judy's practical experience as well as research. The chapter about values was very insightful and it is not something I have seen mentioned before in books. That provided a big picture to building habits. The additional resources in the form of summary sheets and charts were quick helpful too.

Many thanks to the author for a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
