I think I'm going to enjoy this entire series. It's YA of course, but I have a super soft spot for YA. I can really see the characters in my mind as I read, and the descriptions are very good. It combines the actual story, bits of journal entries at the top of chapters and random facts and quotes about magic from various sources also at the beginning of chapters. It explores Wicca on a more intellectual level than the Charmed books, and provides a lot more of the ritualistic and informational part of Wicca which Charmed sometimes (maybe a lot of the time) skips over. I'm reading a book in between this first book and the second one, but I already can't wait to get on to the next one.

I really like this book. I got into the characters and love the story line. I really can't wait to see where this story is going.

I read this series when I was FAR too young for them (10 or so) and I remember giggling with my friend over the sexy bits and also gasping when Morgan and/or Bree called the other "a bitch." VERY SCANDALOUS for us elementary schoolers. Perfect for your preteen daughter going through her occult phase.

First in the series
High school friends exploring Wicca and the high school drama that corresponds. It was a good start to the story, now to read the series and hope they get more intriguing!

This book was super fun. It ended way too soon though.

Okay book. The main character annoyed me and the insta love was horrible but I can see that it's probably a spell of some sort since it was super ridiculous.
While the story was silly, I do like wicca culture and im interested in learning so it was a nice basic approach to what the traditions can be about.
It was obvious from the star that the main character was special and powerful, I'm going to guess her parents aren't actually her parents and she has pure blood or whatever.
The best friend was insufferable and I hated her personality. I know she's probably also under a love spell but even so, I didn't vibe with her since the beginning.
I may read the next book in the series but it all seems very predictable so far.

Amazing to read it again after so many years. Still makes me feel the same.

Young Adult novel. I listened on hoopla to see if Kyla would like the series. Found it to be appropriate for her and found myself engaged in it as well. It is about witches and wicka magic - a young high school girl who discovers she is a witch. Quick read.

After starting the series in highschool (for some reason I only made it to the 6th book), I am coming back to reread the early books and hopefully finish the entire series.
I have fallen for Cate Tiernan twice without realizing it. The first was Old Magic (which I desperately want to reread and hope will live up to my expectations). The second, of course, is Sweep.
That said - three star review for this one (tho I wish we could give 3.5 stars on GR). Some of the characterization is rather over the top (you may find it insufferable if bratty teenagers are a turnoff for you), and I don't always love Morgan. I can't recall if the rather karge cast of characters ever gets a little more nuance, but I hope they do. But it's not often that you find a book that incorporates actual wiccan practices in alongside the more fantastical elements, and that's what draws me to this book.
Regardless, this series has always felt like stepping into October for me, and that's my favorite feeling.
