Fragile Longing by Cora Reilly

A very smart reader wrote here on Goodreads that this book's title should have been "Fragile Egos" and I can't agree more. Man, but both the hero and the heroine were insecure little messes and sometimes their shit really annoyed me.

Sofia was only 18, so I could somewhat excuse her childish behaviour and how she seemed intent on blaming her older sister (who had been gone from her life for years, by the way) for the fact Danilo didn't see her as a woman. Girl, if you were worried about that don't you think trying to impersonate your sister was a bad idea in the first place?

Danilo was ten years older than Sofia and a Mafia underboss no less, so he should have definitely gotten his shit together sooner. The fact that he kept on chasing blonde women to screw as a way to stick it to Sofia's sister was plain stupid, but who am I to judge?

That being said, I simply can't resist a good age-gap, unrequited love story, where one of the characters is vying for another's attention and love. Also, I seem to be on a Mafia quick since I read [b:Twisted Pride|43721791|Twisted Pride (The Camorra Chronicles, #3)|Cora Reilly|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1630080242l/43721791._SY75_.jpg|65739473] so of course I enjoyed myself despite the fuckery.

I don't know why I picked this book up and read it when I haven't read Twisted Pride (and maybe Bound by the Past too?), which I think are books prior to this one if someone is reading the series in order (which I was/am). But, I'm in a reading slump and I was motivated to keep going with this book so I just went with it. I was able to finish it in a day so yay!

I am only giving it 3 stars though. It's a typical mafia arranged marriage story, which we've seen from Cora Reilly before multiple times and some she does better than others. This one isn't that great. It's pretty slow and the issues the MCs go through were repetitive. But, it was entertaining enough so 3 stars.

Overall ok plus I got a glimpse to Dante. I like how every story can be read as standalone but there are glimpses from the other couples-stories. But! Too much giggles for an 18 year old!

Going into this I was hoping it would give me sweetest temptation vibes and not Bound by Temptation or By Virtue I fall vibes. It feel somewhere in the middle for me - it wasn't as good as ST but it was nowhere as near as painful as BBT or BVIF. Sofia was a little immature but not as pining as Lily was in BBT. So much happened to both these families and it was quite emotional. I could see why Sofia felt very inadequate and why Danilo would be closed off. Anna was great in these books and I wished she had been as endearing in her own books. I did struggle to connect at first with both MCs and I wish that we didn't have to wait until 60% of the way in for them to get married. By the end I was finding Sofia frustrating because she could not drop the Serafina thing even after Danilo told her that he loved her. All in all this was a very enjoyable book and as usual Cora impressed me.
