DID NOT FINISH: 74%

Didn’t expect much from my first read of the year- just something to get me in the swing of things however it was very boring. The romance wasn’t giving at all tbh, well the guy was alright I suppose (forgot dudes name already) hmm.. guess we’ll never know. The girl (also anyone’s guess) was a one dimensional to me, just meh. Didn’t hate her, didn’t like her either. Like I said, I was simply bored. Figured I’d see myself before that 75% breakup because there’s no way I would be able to bring myself to care.

I enjoyed this book so much and can't wait to read more about Tom in the next book!

Reasons to bump this up your TBR: I loved the deeper layers in this book. Although the relationship between Ruth and Know is a central theme, I enjoyed the exploration of difficult subjects. (See content warnings)
Knox is in my opinion a top tier bookboyfriend who’s protective but not in a dark romance, toxic kind of way.
Ruth is a strong FMC who has to deal with her own battles. The way she handles what’s thrown at her and how she finds peace with her past made me tear up a little bit.

Reasons to bump this down your TBR: I had a hard time getting into the book. When I was 30% through I finally found myself comfortable reading. In my opinion it had mostly to do with the over-explaining of how they are rivals and ‘hate’ each other. Although it’s pretty clear from the start there are more complicated feelings involved than just rivalry.

Quote I loved: “Seeing Ruth smile made me remember that I no longer felt only my emotions, but hers too."

This book is phenomenal! I’ve been reading Elle’s books for over a year now, and you can tell she has really stepped up her writing game. I’ve loved all of her books, but I’m so excited to see where she continues to go.

Now, onto the review of the book, Forces of nature is a rivals to lovers, second chance(ish), workplace romance. We have Ruth and Knox. Ruth has grown up constantly feeling like she’ll never measure up. Her parents only care about their children’s successes and achievements academically and professionally.
Knox grew up in a very opposite household. His parents showered him with love and kindness and celebrated all of his wins. What Knox viewed as banter and friendly competition, Ruth viewed as her own personal hell and never measuring up.
This is the first book in a series of stand-alones, but I’m so excited to dive deeper into Ruth’s family dynamics and learning more about her family members.
The relationship is not a slow burn, but the spice hits at about 55%. Knox is an amazing book boyfriend. All of Elle’s men she writes are amazing, and my favorite part about them is they’re so realistic.

Definitely pick up this book. It’s a great read, and while you’re there check out her back catalog!

Ruth Murray and Knox Price met in high school. They were perpetual rivals, each pushing the other to be better. Ruth finally got the edge by becoming valedictorian in their final year.

Cut to ten years later Ruth works at The Stanford bank as head of marketing. When she hears whispers of a new executive starting there is nobody more surprised than her to find out that it is none other than Knox Price. Knox is the CEO of his startup company.

Similarly Knox has thought about Ruth often in the past ten years. She’s to only person that can challenge him and create that spark in his life he so needs.

She’s afraid of thunder and lightning and he’s afraid of never ‘feeling’ again. Are they a match made in heaven or will they stay enemies forever?

The first book in a family series that will focus on the Murray siblings. Their toxic parents have caused a knock on effect with each of them.

I absolutely INHALED this book. I loved both Ruth and Knox’s characters, they were both so well written. I enjoy the elements of the story, their rivalry and the sparks that came off the page for these two.

I cannot recommend this enough.
