DID NOT FINISH

YA fantasy just hasn’t been hitting for me

I had decently high expectations for this book since Spin the Dawn was realllyy good. This one was honestly mid. Girl had a bowl stuck to her head for 85% of the book and I didn't like how the plot progressed. Stepma should NOT have gotten that redemption at the end cause it was so out of the blue. Loved the birds and the vibes but the execution was plgh.

Absolutely loved this. A great read and had a good cry. I love the family dynamics in this. While the plot can be somewhat predictable, it was the delivery and prose of it that made it impactful. Author expertly weaved emotions in the prose and I absolutely loved it.

i loved this book it’s a 4.78 and im rounding down but that’s only because 5 stars are very rare for me this is an amazing book i loved it so much and i absolutely love takkan and her brothers and Shiori and her stepmom-
i loved everyone and everything basically

Good writing style, amazing and unique premise, liked the mythology, enemies to lovers (+), but shaky world building, unlikable protagonist with no character development, the plot twist is kinda stupid, lot of potential wasted.
adventurous inspiring lighthearted medium-paced

What follows is my personal opinion, and is no way representative of any orgs I'm involved with. Thanks to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for providing the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this. I haven't read anything else in the series, and didn't even realize this was a prequel until about halfway through while updating the page count. The world is deeply fleshed out, as are the characters. The rules of the fantasy world are explained as they become relevant, and nothing feels out of place. My only gripe is that Shori's brothers aren't given very much page time for the reader to get to know them (six characters that are distinct, but glossed over), but this is minimal considering how much happens throughout.

The strength of Six Crimson Cranes makes me want to read the other stories in the series, and I can't wait for the next one.
