Ending felt very rushed. Lots of unanswered questions and storylines.
I’m writing this about 30 seconds after reading the last page of this book, with tears in my eyes. This book was absolutely phenomenal beyond words. I thought the rest of the series was incredible, but this one was just unbelievable. I don’t quite know how to process everything I’m feeling after reading it — Nesta and her Valkyries inspired me to my core, and the way SJM crafted her story through this series in sane. I didn’t think I’d even enjoy ACOTAR since I haven’t read fantasy in 10 years, but this series has brought some magical, fantastical, dreamer part of me back to life that I haven’t felt since being in the Hunger Games or Harry Potter fandoms as a kid — and I am so thankful for that. I forgot that books could make you feel like this. I would give this a hundred stars if I could.

I went into this book very anxious as I was not a fan of the FMC (let’s be honest, I absolutely hated her). Did I end this book loving her? No. But I really enjoyed being in her head and understanding all of her thoughts and feelings. It helped me grow an appreciation for her story. There were less twists than previous books but as per the Sarah standard, the last 100 pages were definite page-turners and there were plenty of other scenes that had me shocked, scared, and nervous for the characters. There were also many chapters containing spice (honestly 2-3 times more than ACOMAF). Although we know there (will be) more books in this series, the end of this book didn’t end on a cliff hanger, which I appreciated. Crossing every finger and toe that we get some new POV’s for the next book!

Five stars, because this was a solidly entertaining story that I very much enjoyed. I love the action and battle scenes that Sarah J Maas writes, and I say this as someone who often gets bored in action-heavy stories. Not the case with these books, she has written many memorable battle scenes that are just plain entertaining. The romance scenes are sometimes a little too much for me, but I know that varies between people.
My main gripe is that I found this book in the YA section of the library, while I was looking at books my 10 year old was interested in. I am not sure how or why this is classified as YA. The character is not a young adult, in the very first book of the series her littlest sister was 19 years old. Nesta must be in her mid to late twenties in this book, at least. I don't see how the themes strike as YA, and obviously the book is a lot more graphic than someone would expect a YA book to be. My guess is that this series is classified as YA for marketing reasons? The first novel in the series could be fairly classified as YA, but I don't see it with the rest of the books- especially this one.
Anyways. That annoyed me, but it was still a great story.
