The town of Shipwreck and the Rock family are just too awesome to believe. Tillie Jean Rock beloved younger sister of Cooper and Grady has been flirting with Max, her brother’s teammate on the Fireballs for the last 4 years. Max is a starting pitcher who had a rough childhood, doesn’t believe he is good enough for more than one-night stands and suffers from anxiety.

When Max first meet Tillie Jean he got an eyeful and the wrong impression of her, before learning she was Cooper Rock’s younger sister and off limits. Cooper is his best friend ever and Max has been resisting his attraction to Tillie Jean for four long years. This winter he has moved to Shipwreck along with several Fireball teammates to workout and train together to build more team cohesion so they can build on their first winning season. Tillie Jean is his neighbor and is becoming his kryptonite.

Tillie Jean and Max alternate dancing around each other, aggravating and antagonizing and prancing each other. More importantly, over the winter months in Shipwreck they become friends and eventually more, but is it a winter fling and scheduled to be over when Max leaves for Spring Training or is built to last a lifetime?

Pippa brings all the hilarity in this brother’s best friend/teammate slash enemies-to-lovers, grumpy guy/sunny girl romance. Dirty talking parrots, cockblocking goats and glitter bombs galore.

I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

LOL. Pippa Grant is fabulous. The cafe scene with Max, TJ, and her grandma.

Grumpy bear

I absolutely loved Max and it's story. The laugh out loud moments were great and abundant. Pippa Grant really knows how to keep the fun going in this series. I absolutely love how she writes these books.

I wanted to love this...

Big, HUGE Pippa fan here. I have loved all her books! And I want to love this one so dang badly but I just can't. Possible spoilers ahead.
.
.
.
.
From the opening it felt like I missed a few chapters. I'm not usually against being thrown into the action, and these ARE characters I'm familiar with, but it just felt... Off. I wasn't sucked in like I normally am. I was confused and not connecting.

This got a little better at around 30%. Enemies to Lovers is my jam, and Tilly and Max had some really hot build up. Their banter was good, but I wanted more. When they're together it was so good! They have a genuine connection and you're familiar with their hangups, even if they were pretty standard. I enjoyed reading a hero who struggled with anxiety. It made Max a lot more "real" and I appreciated that. I just wish it had been explored a little more, along with diving more into why TJ cracked in college. They DID talk about it, but it felt very surface level.

The breakup was really predictable stuff. I had something different in mind and was disappointed when something more surprising/unique wasn't used. I am sure she has cut chapters, and possibly other paths she thought about taking. I would kill to see those!

The end felt like it was missing two or three chapters. As if they got chopped for word count, and I want them back! It all resolves in the blink of an eye and it was so unsatisfying. As private of a person as Max is, it didn't track for me for him to have that confession in front of everyone. There wasn't enough to support that kind of massive shift in him. It didn't come across genuine.

The epilogue was amazing! Both of them. And that helped.

But in general... This one is my second least favorite. Grady's book remains my least favorite Pippa book for a lot of similar reasons. Shipwreck and its cast of characters is fantastic! But I think too much time is given to those side characters getting in laughs, leaving the development of the main couples' relationship lacking.

All this to say, I did enjoy the book! I'm always going to enjoy a Pippa book. It made me laugh out loud and put a smile on my face many times. But this one didn't live up to the hype, or to Pippa's usual standards. The pacing was way off, the character development choppy, and the ending kicked me off a cliff of WTF? Making me ask, where's the rest of it?

Also... Where's Zeus?! A Pippa book without a Zeus cameo??? Break my heart why don't ya?

I still love you Pippa!!! And I will ALWAYS buy a Pippa book no matter what. I just hope the next installment weaves the laughs more into the development of the couple then it is about giving time to side characters.

Some great ideas, & I’m a fan of Pippa’s books, but it felt like it took forever to get anywhere in this story. Hardly any development until the end.

This was a fantastic story. Max and Tillie Jean had chemistry, but they both had obstacles to overcome. This book has the humor that Pippa Grant is known for and plenty of quirks for each character. The writing style is one that sucks you in and you absolutely can relate to these characters. Now I eagerly await Tillie Jean's brother's story and seeing Cooper Rock fall. This book also revisits one of my favorite fictional towns and many favorite characters. It is a must read story.

I got 40% in and had to give up.

I have a couple of issues with this book and this one will not be popular:

- I really disliked TJ. Now, I get it, she's sunshine and rainbows but has her issues which make her relatable to the male MC. However, the fact that she constantly harassed Max by flirting with him when he was clearly uncomfortable is a big no no for me, especially 'just to annoy' her brother. I get they both had feelings for each other but she just never stopped. And I was really glad to see the scene where her brother just tells her to 'lay off'. However, then we get to the next issue, TJ's complete overbearingness. So her brother tells her to lay off, so she goes and tells Max's all about her own issues. Like, just chill out, give the man space to breath and then tell him that you understand part of what he is going through. Okay, rant over.

- The book is sllowwwww.

- It's just a bit much. Lots of characters, lots of weird side stories like parrots, etc.

Awesome

I really love Max and Tillie Jean together! It was also really fun to see Shipwreck again! I can’t wait to see what happens next!
