Enemies to Lovers! Small town! Grumpy/Sunshine! Age gap! Chronic illness representation! LGBTQ+ supporting characters! Non-traditional couples representation! Banter/arguments x10000%! Spice even more so.

I will be recommending this book to every spicy book reader from now until forever. From the beginning the hate that these two have for each other just roped me in and had me begging them to just have hate sex already and was I surprised when they did NOT have hate sex. I’m so excited to have been able to read this before it was released.
He comes back to the small town where he was raised and tried for 13 years to forget because he has to now manage the family’s oyster bar and care of his teenage brother in the aftermath of an FBI raid of the money laundering business that was happening at the Oyster bar. Across the way he “meets” a girl that he is immediately attracted to and loves how fierce and unapologetic she is but that is causing more than one problem for him. Especially when he realizes too late that she is the baby sister of his best friend. They CAN NOT like each other this way, nothing can happen between them two, but they must also learn not to hate each other if their businesses are going to be able to run smoothly. Read this book to follow along this story and see the crazy twists and heroic moments that occur. He always wants to care for everyone and solve everyone’s problems, yet she wants no one to care for her anymore and has learned to do it herself.

✨ enemies to lovers
✨ brothers best friend
✨ age gap
✨ grumpy x sunshine
✨ small town
✨ chronic illness

After years of traveling Sunny is back in her hometown of friendship to open up her vegan cafe Naked with her closest friends. Becoming neighbors with long time Oyster company and her brothers best friend Beckett leads these two at odds. But Beckett remembers Sunny as an awkward teenager he saw once in awhile and seeing her as this new grown up bombshell throws him through a loop. As he’s only in friendship in time to clean up his parents mess, restore the name of their company and take care of his younger brother, he doesn’t need his best friends younger sister consuming all his thoughts. Until he can’t seem to stay away from her he helps make all her problems disappear. But Beckett doesn’t plan to stay in friendship and Sunny has finally found herself in a place she swore she’d never return to.

I think they were just the perfect grumpy sunshine mixture. Add in a whole shit ton of tension and heated moments. A dash of small town shenanigans and some of the craziest best friends and you get one of my new favorite small town couples.

This book was silly and fun. Mixed in with some serious moments. We get a grumpy lawyer who wants nothing to do with his sunshine neighbor and her vegan concoctions. But when Sunny keeps running into trouble he can’t seem but to help fix all her problems. I love how confident and fun Sunny is. She makes friends with every one and makes every single person she meets feel welcome. Sunny brings out the best parts of Beckett and I love seeing him open up and find himself more than just someone who cleans up after everyone else.

I found myself laughing and swooning with all the ways Beckett shows up for Sunny but also shows her he knows she can do it all herself but she no longer has to. It feels pure and like you knew they were meant to be all along.

Stay tuned for my in the jam review as we get a few guest appearances from Shay and Noah ❤️

5:5 ⭐️

Picked this up after reading IN A JAM, not wanting to leave the town of Friendship, RI quite yet.
The more I read the better I liked it, and by the end I hoped we’d get stories about some of the characters we met. Fingers crossed!

I really loved reading this. It wasn’t a perfect read for me; I found parts of a little slow, a little dense, and that was a bit of a problem for me. Overall, though, this was a delight to read. The writing was very good, very solid; the dialogue was absolutely spot on.

The chemistry between Sunny and Beckett was so good, and if you like a slow burn vibe, this is a good one to sink your teeth into. I will say it’s not a full slow burn in my opinion but it feels like it. There’s a really delicious build up of sexual tension, and it’s such a relief when it finally hits boiling point. The dynamic between them is so fun. Sunny gives as good as she gets, and Beckett was so gone for her, it was adorable to see.

There was a really lovely, beautiful intimacy between the two characters that I loved reading. It was just so tactile; they’re always touching, even when they aren’t having sex, and there were some scenes that I feel are burned in my memory –
Spoilerthe bath scene after she comes out of hospital, for one!
. The sex scenes though are very hot and very well-written.

I also liked how their relationship played out. There was a maturity to it, a real sense of having to work for their happy ending, that I really appreciated. Sunny handles Beckett in a way that felt sensible and satisfying; letting him know when he’s overstepped and giving him space to work things out for himself, even when he doesn’t want to take that space. It was just very well-constructed.

As I said at the start of the review, there are parts that feel slow, and others repetitive; I think some of it could have been trimmed down to ease that. But I was so swept up with the romance of it all that I didn’t really care. A lovely, lovely, lovely romance.

Content Notes: Small town, hate-to-love, brother’s best friend / best friend’s sister, slow burn, grumpy/sunshine.

Warnings:
SpoilerEpilepsy, references to seizures, head injuries, hospital scenes, blood, broken bones, vomiting, traffic collision, hit and run, violence, knife violence, attempted arson, drug dealing, drug use (on-page, side character).

Other:
SpoilerOn-page sex, very mild OW/OM drama
SpoilerThe FMC and MMC both see the other with an OM/OW respectively simultaneously. They’re both a bit jealous but nothing happens between the MCs and anyone else, and there’s no actual flirtation between them and the OPs.

Loveable characters: Yes

1. I have been reading way to much suspense lately.
2. Beck and Sunny are so freaking funny.
3. Storm Cloud would be such a cheesy pet name, if it wasn't for a grouchy billionaire saying it!

I wish I liked this book more, but the suspense portion was not there for me, it felt like it missed the mark. As a Rom com, I loved it! All of Sunny's friends and everyone at SPOC were so funny, and I loved the little mentions of In A Jam. I have so many questions though about some of the other characters. It was a lot of world building, but left me wanting to know more about so many of the side characters.

Sunny and Beck's banter killed me! They were so witty and had a great enemies to lovers going for them! I have my same remorse with this book that I did with In A Jam, the plot just feels lacking, the story is great and I absolutely love it, but the plot just feels unorganized.

But seriously, how does Kate Canterbary come up with the funniest characters and best banter.
