Another great book by Lee Goldberg. I love the Mr. Monk series. His struggle with losing his wife, OCD, and many other phobias that make being a detective hard. The characters are engaging and witty.

I actually listened to the audiobook version I downloaded from iTunes. I liked the story, but I wasn't too fond of the reader's voice for Monk. Perhaps because it was a woman trying to sound Monkish, I don't know. :) But, as I said, it didn't make me like the story any less. I figured out the ending early on, but didn't know how he'd prove it!

I've always loved the Monk TV series and now I'm really enjoying these books. There's a lot to love even if you've not come across this detective before. The writer gets the tone exactly right and the plot lines are simply excellent - with a lot of twists to keep you reading.

As ever the characters are also delightful, and the wonderfully stressed-out Monk is a perfect foil for his wonderfully patient assistant Natalie - they make a great team. I also really admire the way the books are written from the assistant's point of view which gives you a very clever insight into Detective Monk and his foibles. I think the only other series where the assistant is the viewpoint character is Sherlock Holmes and, here, it's just as charmingly done.

Another fast, fun read. What I found most satisfying about this story was the handling of the "psychic", with the skeptic remaining a skeptic until the end and very thoroughly debunking the con artist in the process, which is what most "psychics" are. The rest are delusional. Usually TV shows or movies will leave the question of whether the "psychic" is real or not open, while hinting that they actually have supernatural abilities. Not so here, which was very refreshing.
