It was good, not Shadow and Bone awesomeness but still. Some parts were boring and lacking action, but the ending was great, I am sooo going to read the next book!

Alina:
I want them, I thought. All that light, all that power. I want it all.

My baby is becoming quite the badass!

Every Darkling moment:

I swear this guy is gonna be the death of me! I never fangirled so hard in my life, the charisma!!! I just can't, but seriously, his new powers are so creepy, he is creepy!

Darkling x Alina

I don't know why but I can't stand Mal, maybe because he's the clingy best friend, like dude let the girl embrace her powers and her destiny damnit, I really hated him in this book!!!

Sturmhond however is amazing, the exact opposite of the Darkling. His devil may care attitude is a ray of sunshine.
SpoilerAnd he's the prince of Ravka!!! Didn't see that coming!

Talking about birthdays, reading Chapter 22 was like:

I really really liked this book series. My one complaint is there’s not really much romance and I’m a romantasy girlie at heart so it didn’t scratch the itch. As a stand-alone fantasy series? So ridiculously good.

Oh Saints, I loved this even more than Shadow and Bone, if that’s possible. The world of Grishas has firmly staked its place in my heart.

Molto bello anche se continuo a non provare grande simpatia per Mal.

"You know the problem with heroes and saints, Nikolai?” I asked as I closed the book’s cover and headed for the door. “They always end up dead.”

The second book hooked me more than the first one did. Alina and Mal are getting in all sorts of sticky situations. There relationship hits some natural struggles. The situation is making it impossible for them to be together. Alina can't turn her back on her powers, she is the only one that can end the Darkling and the Fold. But Mal can't be with her because he just doesn't fit and it puts a target on his back. I love Nikolai, I'm a sucker for sass and swagger. This series was already enjoyable and entertaining, but Nikolai just made it better for me. The side characters add depth and some of them are so loveable, I'm taking about you David. After reading this I'm ready for the finale.

(More like a 3.5)

So, this took a while for me to get into. It felt like there was a major shift in the dynamics within the book, which I didn’t take to well and it took some adjusting. Alina felt completely different to me from where we left her in S&B and where we found her in S&S. The Mal and Alina fiasco got old, real fast. There was definitely a disconnect for me with the characters. Majority of the book was spent thinking or talking about schemes/plotting against the Darkling, which in the end, amounted to practically nothing and all this time was inevitably wasted.

On another note, I was super excited to meet the amazing character that is... Nikolai (are we surprised?). Can’t wait to dive into his character more, because I already love him! The last quarter of this book redeemed it for me— shit got real, QUICK. I’m interested to see how this trilogy wraps up, and finally get to the moment I’ve been waiting for, which is being able to start King of Scars.

side note— but who’s the real villain here because Alina looking a little shaky inside that head of hers

It has definitely been too long since I read Shadow and Bone, since it took me a bit to reacclimate myself to the characters and universe of this series, but it was well worth it. Having picked up Book 1 a couple of years ago completely by accident, I have sincerely enjoyed reading both Books 1 and 2. Starting Book 3 today!
