Plucky girl winning the day solving the mystery. Could still be read by kids these days without it being too dated.

Quite enjoyable overall. I think that, especially given that this was originally written in the 1930s, Nancy is rockin' female lead. It's awesome that she's is driven and helpful and caring with a father who supports her initiative. However in terms of story, the answers all kind of fall in line all the way through so it's not an incredibly thrilling mystery. But it had a happy ending and I enjoyed myself.

two-ish, three-ish stars

This is my first time reading Nancy Drew, I didn’t realize she was so old, I imagined a child not a recent high school graduate. Silly me. The mystery was interesting and it was quite entertaining. Will definitely read more.

A great, fast-paced mystery with a wonderful and good-hearted heroine detective! Nancy Drew is a very lovable and determined youth woman to solve the case. For my first time reading Nancy Drew, I loved it! I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

Wow, I’ve never read Nancy Drew books before and didn’t know how much I wouldn’t like it! Besides it being really predictable, I didn’t like how unrealistic it was. She would meet people randomly at their house by stopping in someone’s garage when it was raining and they would immediately invite her in, give her clothes, have her join in their birthday celebration, and become best friends. No consideration to if she was a crazy person.

I also didn’t like how she was always talking out loud to herself, or even in her head, the most obvious things, like, “Oh no! Here come the thieves! I must find a way to hide!” Or, “Those girls are so mean. I should stay out of their way.” Thanks captain obvious.

I don’t know, maybe the books get better because somehow they’re iconic. And I really like the Nancy Drew computer games. But this book was lame.
