4.5 stars. I picked this up at the library on a whim and I don’t regret it at all. The story was enchanting, beautifully crafted and the message was so powerful.

This book surprised me with its plot twists, although its quite easy-guessing. I was touched by the sisterhood because its so beautiful and sad at the same time. Not happy with the ending, I wish that the bad guys deserve severer punishment. A very solid book overall.

This book started off slow for me, but it did get more interesting. I just didn’t vibe with it.

“Because there was nothing in a girl’s history that might negate her right to choose what happens to her body.”

This book had some nice charm to it; the island especially felt like it had an identity all it's own. I did manage to predict one of the plot points pretty soon into the story
Spoilerone of them being that Georgie did in fact have powers, the other being that her powers were control of the weather
. I thought the romance was okay, nothing too special, but nice just the same. I really enjoyed Harrison's quirkiness, he was definitely one of my favorite characters along with Vira. Overall a decent story, just not perfect for my particular tastes.

If there's only one Annabelle, why would her eggs hatch!? This kept bugging me*. Also that ALL young people must leave the island to go to college. Also 40 people in a grade? That's not a tiny island I feel. Otherwise, the vibe was very A Series of Unfortunate Events, which is great. Maybe this works for the intended target audience. I found the story kinda mismatched and rambly, first it's all 'I'm so in love with this stranger', then it's about friendship, then about rape and also about leaving home?! Oh yeah and some magic sprinkled in. I did like the everydayness of the magical powers.

* I just went on a little Google adventure to see if a female bird could hatch without a male present (sans magic) and it's kinda possible! Parthenogenesis! It doesn't really work in birds, or the chicks that come out have issues, but asexual reproduction would've been a nice talking point to expand on the asexual-aromantic (I think!?) best friend.
