Ahhh I've been waiting so long for the book on Kaldar and I wasn't disappointed !! It was as awesome as I expected ><
Audrey is a pretty talented thief with the worst family ever and as always, her family leads her in the worst thief possible. Within seconds, the life she had built is shattered and she is forced to team up with Kaldar Mar, the best con far too handsome for his own good. When a con and a thief team up to find some magical device, even the worst murderers of the Hand were no match for them !!
I absolutely loved seeing Audrey and Kaldar interact with flirtations, thefts, fighting and evily good kisses =)
Finding Jack and George again was great too because we see them grow and it is hilarious. Well, the marriage thing was a bit too fast for me but as it is Kaldar I'm willing to forgive him =)
In short, for me it's the best book of the series so far.

Fate's Edge (The Edge #3) by Ilona Andrews

In this the third installment of the Edge series by Ilona Andrews we are once again treated to the incredible world building this amazing author team put together. Reality depends on where you are and how much magic you have. If you don’t have any magic you live in “The Broken” and you are basically a Muggle. If you have a lot of magic you live in “The Weird”. Between “The Broken” and “The Weird” is “The Edge”. This is where misfits from both sides exist. Most folks from The Weird can’t cross into The Broken and vice-verse but then there are some who can. In Fate's Edge we meet Audrey who lives in The Edge and works in The Broken. One of her “gifts” is locks. She has yet to meet one she can’t open. Audry comes from a family of grifters and is dragged into doing one last score for her father. Kaldar used to live in The Edge and now lives and works in The Weird. He has many talents but he is paid to use those talents for his government. They have sent him to retrieve the item the Audrey has helped her father steal.
We meet up with characters from the previous two books but you could probably read as a stand-alone. I don’t know why you would want to though as this is a terrific series and well worth the read.

Ilona Andrews always excels with strong, admirable heroines. Audrey is a pleasure to read, she's got a massive chip on her shoulder concerning family, is an unrivaled locksmith and more importantly, doesn't have superhuman fighting skills while not being a wilting lily.

Kaldar was an interesting choice for a hero, I hadn't thought much of his character in Bayou Moon and was initially a bit disappointed when he rocked up again. Any misgivings are quickly lost though, he's fiercely loyal to family, a smart arse with a weakness for arses and smart. They're a pleasure to read and although the pacing of their relationship is ridiculously fast, the book doesn't feel rushed at all.

A surprise pleasure was the reappearance of George and Jack, the enigmatic brothers of Fate's Edge, they easily stole the book and I can only secretly hope that the edge series will run long enough to eventually feature their stories.

I like the world and a lot of the characters in this series, but this book suffers from middle book syndrome.

My favorite parts of the book were George, Jack, and Gaston.

The romance was rushed and unbelievable. I didn't love the mmc or the fmc. The mmc didn't have much personality and the fmc was a know-it-all. The entire main conflict of the book wasn't exciting enough and the villain was an afterthought.

While this was a fun addition to the Edge universe, I'm not the biggest fan of how Kaldar is characterized. His lack of respect for clearly stated physical boundaries was not something that I necessarily enjoyed reading. I understand there is an appeal for some people, and it did fit his character in terms of aligning with his own self-interest outside of issues affecting his family, but the repeated violation of boundaries and Kaldar's falling into insta-love while doing so made this not my favorite book of the series. Which is sad, because I enjoyed his character when he was first introduced. I really enjoyed Jack and George in this book! The parts they played in the cult side quest was one of the highlights of the book.

Wonderfully fast-paced adventure! Sizzling chemistry! Great read! I gobbled this up in a day and a half of happy white-knuckled reading. I am loving this series more and more with each passing book. They all build on each other and favorite characters from the past are brought back to the forefront. I missed Jack and George, so was thrilled when they played a central role in this book. The authors' concept of changelings is so interesting! Love em!
Can't wait for the next book in this series. Keep it going Ilona Andrews!

Not my favorite Edger novel - I couldn't love the main characters - they're conmen!
