So... Have any of you guys ever read this book from ,like, 2004 called, "define 'Normal'"? Well, to me it kind of seemed like it was a mimic of that book.
*neglected/abused daughter goes into child care.
*said child dislikes living in said home (except for in this book...she begins to like them)
*the girl is in bad terms with the rebel and befriends them towards the middle of the book and the main character finds out rebel friends is rich and has a dysfunctional relationship with their mom
Don't get me wrong...I still think this is a good book, but I probably would have found it more interesting if I haven't readdefine normal

This was definitely one of my favorite realistic fiction books. There were times when I was literally afraid of Carley and her "tantrums", but Mrs. Murphy was a really great character and she helped Carley even when Carley thought she didn't need any help. And Daniel was actually a really great person too after he stopped thinking Carley was a jerk.
Carly is not happy. They won't let her see her mom in icu. & now, to make matters worse, she is being released from the hospital into foster care. She knows the horror stories. But, her foster family seems nice, too nice. How could things get worse? How is her mom?
fast-paced
I read this book because it was a battle of the books book... So at first I didn't like it at all but then The books story really grew on me in the last 50 few pages or so... At first i wasn't sure if I would like it and it really ended up being really heartwarming and very good in fact it even made me tear up a little ... It was a very fast paced read it only took me a day to read and yeah... Anyways I have it a four because I ended up liking it but I didn't like the whole thing... I would recommend this book to people who like fast short heartwarming books... And who don't mind reading a slow begging:)

hopeful
I've read all three of this author's books now and they are all equally wonderful. All are about difficult life situations, but all are treated with care and hope. I love that about these books. "One for the Murphys" is about a child in foster care whose had a particularly difficult life. I know that some people will say that these hopeful depictions aren't realistic depictions, but, honestly, people don't pick up books to be pulled down into a whirlwind of trouble. They want to experience hope, to know that there are people out there who can be their superhero, and set them back on the right path. That's the message of 'One for the Murphys' - there are superheros, living amongst us, who can help...if we let them.
The heartbreaking thing about this book is that I know girls just like Carly, except they don’t have a Mrs. Murphy in their lives.
Ehhh this book was ok. I mean it wasn't as bad as thought it was going to be but not as good as it could have been. There was some character development in Carley but not enough. And the end **********SPOILERS************
