Ready Player One was so creative, I was really wondering how the author could follow it up. In that sense, Ready Player Two delivers! I found some of the 80s/90s references fun, but some of the longer ones got a little tedious. I think this will be a better movie than book (and fingers crossed it will be a movie!)
Starts out well, and the premise is exciting, but that excitement is quickly lost when you find yourself trudging through pages and pages of esoteric 80s references that add nothing to the plot line. These references were at least varied in the first book, but there are whole chapters in this book that simply bombard you with character names, song names and locations from one franchise at a time, which is exhausting.
Giving this two stars, because the technological ideas in the book gave me pause for thought, but the plot itself was extremely disappointing and I was glad when it was over.

Listen...I loved the first one. This one was just fine. Much of the same stuff with an incredibly unlikeable hero.
Long as drawn out with less of the cleverness of the first book.

This was a very slow start, so much so that I almost gave up. Not as rivetting asthe original, but ok.
Great book with lots of nostalgia and I really enjoyed the chapter on John Hughes. Overall, not as perfect as the first book but a solid follow up.
I loved “Ready Player One,” so I was excited to learn Cline had written a sequel. But did the world need this sequel? Eh. It’s a tough act to follow, and there were some high points in RP2, but overall not as compelling as the original novel.
..what? The storyline was somehow the same as RP1 but not as cool (and kind of boring). Even the Tolkien bit could not save it for me.
