I am not going to lie, I've read A LOT of thrillers here recently - too many to count! And when I say this has got to be one of the ABSOLUTE BEST ones I've read in a long time, I mean it! The Wife Upstairs was so incredibly good and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.
This thriller literally had it ALL. I was so intrigued to find out more and more as the plot unraveled. I found it so interesting that each character wasn't necessarily likable, yet I found myself still wanting Jane to get the life she so desperately dreamed of. I flew through these pages eagerly wondering what would happen next. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, I was proved wrong.
I give The Wife Upstairs 5 HUGE STARS! This thriller was so incredibly well written by Rachel Hawkins. Each character developed at a steady pace, and the twists and turns in the plot were expertly placed. I blew through this book because the anticipation and the build-up was so fascinating. This was my first novel by Hawkins and it will surely not be my last. This was hands down one of the best thrillers/mysteries I've ever read!
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for providing me this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This was an interesting book and I loved the southern culture came through as I have come to expect from Rachel Hawkin’s books. However, I found so much of the book to be boring and predictable. I also am not the biggest Jane Eyre fan so this probably wasn’t the best thriller for me.
I was surprised by the twists and it was very “unputdownable.” I like the choice of ending and I certainly liked it more than the alternative ending the author gave us. There were a lot of details at the beginning that I’d probably like to look back at with the knowledge I have now.
This was a page-turner, even though I listened to it on audio! I was drawn in right away and loved the modern day take on Jane Eyre. Make no mistake, this novel tells its own story, but I had a few laughs with the names of the characters matching Jane Eyre and even their snobby community being called Thornfield Estates. The Wife Upstairs was a fun read with some great twists.
In this modernized retelling of Jane Eyre, the reader or listener, in this case, is taken on a twisted journey with Jane. Jane, a poor dog walker running from a mistake in her past meets Eddie a rich widower with secrets of his own. As the story unfolds you are taken on one twisted turn after another, even in the end you are left to wonder is the story really over?
Overall this book was pretty good. It kept me in suspense and wondering what really happened, until the very end. I didn't love any of the characters and I didn't find that I could relate to them either, but I didn't hate them and I enjoyed the journey the author took us on.

Picture a narrative that's a cross between Jane Eyre and Rebecca and a hint of Wuthering Heights. This book is a unique concoction, borrowing elements and even names from Jane Eyre yet presenting a compelling and suspenseful retelling. Its plot twists will keep you on the edge of your seat, and its thought-provoking nature will continue to resonate with you long after you've turned the final page.
The Wife Upstairs is a modern retelling of Jane Eyre, which I’ve never read, so for me at least it was full of surprises! I love multiple POV and a possibly unreliable narrator, so this was right up my alley!
