I'd never read Anne of Green Gables, although I'd seen the miniseries many, many times. Since I live in PEI, I thought it was a good time to give it a read with my kids while summer is at its peak. It didn't disappoint. Lucy Maud Montgomery has an incredible knack for Anne's linguistic flights of fancy. It's a distinct pleasure to read. It's also interesting to see elements of Island culture that have been preserved to the present day and try to map out the real world correlation to fictional localities in the book.

This was a delightful children’s classic. I was really quite moved by the end of it, although I didn’t expect to be. Anne is such a wonderful character!

I liked how Anne "never made the same mistakes twice". She is filled with whimsy, imagination, and hope. A cheerful book to read on a rainy day :)

Loved this book as a child and loved it just as much reading it again now. It’s interesting remembering feeling so seen by Anne and I think I was envious of how spectacularly she tried and failed and it didn’t feel like that was something I could do so I think it was an escape. Plus I always hoped I had a secret Gilbert Blythe in school so it fueled those main character vibes

For me, it felt like a breath of fresh air. Hopeful, funny and inspiring. At times I was reminded of Astrid Lindgren‘s Pipi Langstrumpf, her leaning to daydreaming and using her imagination and also the way that Anne interacts with people that treat her overly critical.
I loved how Anne draws her imagination from nature, how she gives places and plants a new name as an act of kindness and appreciation. She is also very curious and a dedicated learner and tries to make the people proud that are closest to her.
I bought it as a gift for my niece and I wanted to read it first. I'm sure, she'll love it, too.

.... I am so glad I read this book and dove into the story of Anne (with an 'e'). This book meant a lot to me as it was my husband's Grandma's favorite book. She was a Canadian who lived rural life and really followed along Anne's story (other than being adopted) and it was so interesting to see why Grandma Clare connected so much to Anne. .....
