idk... it just got boring I guess. I also didn't like the whole becoming god direction it was taking, it just seemed so obvious and cliche.

The plot and pretense is interesting and the world building is fascinating but the plot is just a repeat process of the characters finding an artifact or clue, studying it, traveling to a new place, finding a new artificial, and on and on. I love the characters and I think they’re very well written, especially Laila and Zofia, but it was hard to get through because the plot was so slow
3.5? I think it's just been too long since I read the first book. I spent the majority of this one with minimal investment in any of the characters, just kind of trudging through. But if I'd been reading them back to back, that probably would have been different.
It did start to pick up a bit in the last few chapters!

I would say it's been disappointing, I expected a lot more, given the premises of The Gilded Wolves: more action, more adventure, more feelings... instead it is - for the most part - a flat novel, little happens, the characters interact little and do not mature much compared to the first book. Only in the last chapters does something move, but not enough to reach the third star. Compared to the first book, I found this one significantly inferior.

I'll be honest, this book was really predictable. I didn't absolutely love it like I'd thought and the first book remains superior here. At least in my opinion.
So yeah I still enjoyed this book but that was mostly because I already love the characters and the writing was beautiful. Ignore how much I still want to punch Séverin though ❤️

The Gilded Wolves trilogy is definitely not what I expected. While I think the overall story is interesting and the characters are endearing and well-developed, the execution and world building were seriously lacking. I was hoping The Silver Serpents would offer more information on how magic works because it was very poorly explained in book 1, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case.
The plot was unnecessarily slow, dragged down by a love triangle/girl-on-girl-hate between Layla, Séverin and another girl whose name I already forgot that serves no purpose and is simply there to add drama. I also wasn’t a fan of all communication issues within the group, despite a good depiction of grief following the events of The Gilded Wolves.
The found family elements are there, if not a bit diminished, and Chokshi’s writing style is still as luxurious and very imaginative as ever. The ending was more captivating than the book as a whole, but it doesn’t make up for the rest. I have enough attachment to some characters, and since I already own The Bronzed Beasts, I will finish the series.
