OOOOOOOOOOH!!!! >.< This book was soooooo frustrating! I tried, man. I wanted to like this book so much! But I just don’t. D:
Leech has an epic premise!! Some sort of post apocalypse, an infestation / invasion of deadly parasites, and a medical institution that is also a parasitic thread to humanity. Think scifi horror movies like Dark City, The Thing, and The Hidden.

It started out SO good. The moment you learn you are reading from 'this' pov is so well done, very nice and subtle.
And then... I lost interest at some point, which is sad because the concept is so cool.
I do like that the author tried to create a world with other kind of species and 'minerals' but it was not explained enough. You were left hanging and have to figure out yourself what was meant.
There are also so many names that are dropped like Stanislas, Misulah, Mackinita, Atie. Maybe I missed it, but who the fuck are they? And I feel like the story dragged on a bit too much.
And the ending? Wtf just happened? I am so lost. It went from 4.5 stars in the beginning to 2.5 stars. Wouldn't recommend this book because there are too many questions for me. Gothic horror might just not be my genre.
Random addition: it is so hard to read the Franko accent 😭 Especially as a non native speaker

Absolutely brilliant novel, I can't believe it's their first. I loved the mystery and intrigue. It took a very different turn and perspective than I expected and I loved the open ending.

Subtle plot twists to keep things interesting. The reader's initial assumptions are overthrown - these were carefully set up by the author which the author then craftily debunks.
Leech has managed to make it into the rather limited group of books I would consider "my favorite books of all time". It truly moved me. I loved the characters, the horror narrative, the Gothic elements, the atmosphere, the slow-moving plot, etc. This is a stunningly gorgeous book, but despite that, I would only suggest it to a limited number of people. Know what you are getting into before picking up this book because it is a masterpiece and does not deserve any more negative reviews! Also, please look up trigger warnings if you are sensitive to certain issues. One important plot point REALLY caught me off guard and could definitely be triggering (to me and others). So, please, be safe!
