4-4.25 (I can't decide) - My main critique is that there is a lot of telling and not showing. For example, they banter and snip at each other but (especially in the beginning) all we get is a summary of what they said, we don't actually get the hear it. It got better throughout the story but it still was there occasionally. That being said, I had so much fun reading this book! I really like how in-depth the magic system is explained, it almost feels scientific. Also this is one of the very few books where these people are ENEMIES. There isn't even talk of attraction until like 70% into the book and you really do get to see them get to that realization and warring with their emotions toward each other. Also the plot was so fun that I read it so fast despite the chapters being quite long. I also giggled throughout this whole thing ESPECIALLY ch 18 and 19 lol. I enjoyed both characters but lovvveeeddd Aurienne. And thank god these people are actual adults (though I don't think it's specified how old they are, at least late 20s.)

I read DMATMOOFIL or however you spell it. This debut traditional publishing fare by the same author was profoundly different in a good way. Shadows of Hermione and Draco but the story and plot and world are so unique I forgot the comparison quickly.

The world felt novel and yet at once familiar and the tongue in cheek writing style and new vocabulary words was light and moved quickly.

Canโ€™t wait for the sequel to
find out why the queen or Mercia or whoever wants to raise a zombie child army and who are they taking over and how will we fix Osiricโ€™s seith drain and how do we get our happily ever after?!

Distinct writing style. Absolutely HILARIOUS. Excellent banter and the driest humor. World-building could have been stronger but the characters are distinctly their own beings. But maybe most importantly for the Dramione girls, Osric and Aurienne are their own characters - strong ones at that - and their journey together and as individuals is best served with that in mind.

This took me a really long time to get through. BKโ€™s writing is just as sharp and witty in this as I became familiar with reading her fan fiction, but there was something that made this a bit of a slog to get through for me, despite enjoying her writing. The insults and banter were the main redeeming quality of this. In general, I felt like there was entirely way too much world building and plot for a book that essentially involves 2 character arcs. It boggles my mind that this is getting stretched into two books. I think maybe limiting this to single POV may have cut this story down quite a bit and made it more enjoyable for me.
