Jag är glad att denna är så kort som den är, för jag läste den nu bara för att komma igenom den. Kom ihåg det mesta från när jag läste den på svenska, men lite hade jag glömt. Nu tar det nog ett tag innan jag fortsätter med nästa...

I loved this book! I was obsessed and I didn't go to bed until 2:00am and then I still had dreams about it!!!

This is a situation where you reread a book you loved as a kid and it’s not the same now compared to when you were younger. I absolutely loved this series when I was young but rereading it was not the same. It was still enjoyable but I wish I could go back to the time when I found this book magical.

A fun/fast YA read. My father passed away from pancreatic cancer. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this story as it progressed. But the story was done well and I will be moving on to the next installment.

I have got to reread this. "Huntress" by the same author is currently sitting on my kitchen table with the 1997 cover and I am weebling with glee over rediscovering the most ludicrous books from my young adulthood. The women on the covers could be twins. This is amazing.

Good book, though it seemed a bit short and a little too much to the point with what was happening, lacking a bit on the side of character development and also emotional development. Like Vampire Diaries, it seems like a certain writer was quite inspired by this series, when it came to her writing her own. Soul Mate Principle does sound eerily similar to "imprinting" and it doesn't take that much of a stretch of the imagination to see Night world in the same light as The Volturi in their views on outsiders knowing about their kind.

Overall, a decent read and will certainly pick up the next in the series.

Secret Vampire is the first in the Night World series by YA author LJ Smith. I originally read it back in highschool, and recently decided to reread the series. In hindsight, the writing is perhaps not as great as I thought it was as a teenager. However, that is also colored by my adult preference for somewhat more complex plotlines and characters. Secret Vampire is a easy read for adults, though still entertaining.

What I remember most clearly about Night World in general is liking the explanation of vampire biology. It's mentioned in Secret Vampire mostly as a throwaway, but I think the vampire-blood-doesn't-carry-oxygen-molocules is probably the most creative justification for vampires needing blood I have seen in years of reading fantasy novels. The fact that Poppy brings up symbiosis is a plus. :)

I also think Night World is one of the better examples of the soulmate trope. The presentation of James and Poppy's relationship is perhaps a bit sappy, but I think that has more to with the YA genre than the soulmate trope. I thought it was done well - hitting the sweet spot of not going overboard but not ignoring an introduced plot device - and worked with the childhood friends excuse to justify why the romantic relationship moved along relatively quickly.

Overall, Secret Vampire is an easy but entertaining read offering a unique take on vampire lore and the soulmate trope. I have reccomended it people who have shown an interest in any of those thpes of books.

Cover: 4/5

Story: 2/5 (It was okay)

So this ended up not being what I was expecting. Maybe I’m just too used to long books, but this felt like a short story. And I’m sensing from the chapter sample of the next book that each book is about different people. Ugh.

It was fine. A bit cheesy at parts and everything that happened seemed to be really fast. The problem arose and was resolved quickly. New problem, new quick resolution... and on and on. It was weird.

I guess I’ll try the next one to see if I really want to read the entire series. I mean, I bought the box set so I have them.

This is a reread from what, 10-15 years ago!

This quarantine got me flying through my tbr and given me the opportunity to reread some older books!
