I want to thank the author for providing me with an ARC of this one! You're awesome!!!

This was a really enjoyable read. The story was an original idea that wasn't too scary but more on the spooky side of things.

I love the way the author includes environmental factors to her books. I find fungus and mushrooms to be super creepy. I first stumbled on "sporer" with Mexican Gothic and loved it ever since. It's a very niche sub-genre that needs more attention!

I liked the way the characters were written. They weren't all likable, but I don't think they were supposed to be. Amy drove me bananas, but I really cared about Lori and Julian. This was a lot more than just a horror book.

I think this book would be an enjoyable read for anyone who enjoys horror. I give it a 4.5⭐️s rounded up to 5 where applicable. This was easy to follow, well-paced, and had super creepy moments, but wasn't too dark.

This was the second book I have read by this author. I have previously read and enjoyed "A Dark and Rising Tide." Well done on this one, I'm excited to read more from this author in the future!!!

As soon as I saw the cover and read the title I was so intrigued and I knew this was a book written for me and it did not disappoint. Eco-horror is my favorite genre and this book had everything I had hoped for. Nature horror, Spores, mushrooms and connections to Latin folklore.

The setting was very atmospheric, a combination of beauty and horror. I loved the different POVs, the characters are very well done and the story kept me gripped throughout the whole way. It was very easy the visualize what’s happening and the imagery carries a lot of detail.

Sometimes when I love a story so much, I can fly through it. But this time I decided to really take my time for it so I could really immerse myself into the story and characters.

The Spore Queen is part of the ‘Dark Earth Rising’ series. Each novel is a standalone, though the books are thematically related.

This was the first book of this series I read, also the first book by this author and I certainly plan on reading more by this author.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Fantastical, supernatural, and literally down to earth, this is another great story from The Dark Earth Rising series. Debra has such an easy and compelling way of storytelling that you're sucked in to believing the story as it unfolds, and excited to know what happens next. Now to decide if I need more mushrooms in my life- or an awful lot less!

This book took me on a bit of a journey. I’m REALLY into science adjacent supernatural horror or biological horror so when I saw this ARC I jumped at the chance.

It captivated me from the introduction and the is it is it not first half of the books managed to keep up good pacing and intrigue. I found that the pacing got a little less easy to follow on the second half, there was a lot going on with fungus, spiritual exploration and family drama that I think got lost a bit invetween eachother.

Ultimately this was well written and an enjoyable read, but the pacing and the wrap up to the book fell a bit flatter than I was expecting based on the shotgun opening. I will definitely be reading more by this author though as this whole series sounds up my alley so I’m excited to see other stories woven in a similar vein.

Thanks so much to Book Sirens and the Author for access to this ARC!
