Weird, sad, and delightful.

My inner monologue feels incredibly seen, bare, and vulnerable. Would recommend but encourage you to take it at the pace that is best for you.

Gilda's head is an incredibly hard place to inhabit, but I still wanted to be there—a pretty impressive feat to pull off.

This feels like an adult version of books I liked when I was a teenager. Very dry humor, anxious main character, identity crisis. I really enjoyed it, very weird main character so I can see people not liking her but she was very relatable to me.

This one I didn't enjoy as much as we could be rats, but I still appreciated
the commentary on life, anxiety, depression, mental health, and the difficulty with elder euthanasia, how it affects those around them and how the pain of living harms them. It's never as simple as it's okay or it's not okay. It's so complex, and this books looks at this through a lens of mental health that left me feeling anxious myself. Austin captured the intense nature of anxiety well, while leaving enough breaks that I didn't feel like I had to put the book down for longer than an hour or so
If I hadn't read we could be rats prior, I'm not sure I would have returned to her as an author as intentionally as I am currently, but still has a strong message and I'm glad I picked it up
