After talking with a friend about the way I choose books now and thinking about the way I chose books when I was in my 20s I decided to run an experiment. I described a bunch of books that I think were pretty influential for me in "learning adulting" to chatGPT and told it what I liked about it. Then I asked chatGPT to tell me a book that I would like that was written by a woman.
This was the result and I liked this collection of short stories quite a bit. It was probably a 4 star book up till the final story and this line, which probably won't resonate as much with anyone who grew up in the age of social media:
"I tried to start another Edith Wharton novel, but I can't concentrate in the silence of the phone not ringing."

First book I'm able to finish in a long time and finished it in like 3 days. It has very smooth writing with quippy and natural-feeling inner dialogue.
The writing at one point was so compelling, that it occured to me that the author MUST have lived through it. So when I went to her wiki, and read a specific detail about her personal experience, it seems that it was as I suspected. (And I proceeded to cry my ass off over the realization

Entertaining for sure, but I have to say this kind of had no point?
This book was OK. Pretty much how I expected it to be, and a nice break from the heavier stuff I have been reading. It was a great book to bring along to the beach :)
This is not the type of book I usually enjoy, but I did like the way it was written. I'm not so sure I understood what the family in the downstairs apartment had to do with anything... did I miss something? I come away from this book thinking... just be yourself!
You know how women always say, "Going to bag me a man," and, "There are plenty of fish in the sea?" That's what this book was about. A girl's guide to hunting and fishing FOR A MAN. I was expecting a story about some tomboy or maybe a father-daughter story. I picked it up because the men of my family like to hunt and fish, and I thought it would be a fun read. I was mistaken.
