Holy hell. What a wild ride. I was sitting on the roof of my house with traffic from the road in the background and still got chills. I just don't understand why this book has poor reviews. Apart from being rich with description that just bursts forth from each page, this is a close look into the mind of someone clinging to sanity by a thread, a brave experiment by Stephen King to get inside the terrified mind of a child losing her grip on reality.

Stephen King's non-horror genre books are almost always remarkable with great care given to the power of the human spirit. This book is about what a human would do, even a child, in order to survive.

I particularly like this type of King novel.

First horror book I ever read. They told me I was too young at 10, so of course I stole it and read it anyway. They were right. I was so scared of the woods for weeks. We were a big camping/hiking family too. I loved how you never know what's really after this lost little girl, you just know there's something there and she's in danger.
I have loved Stephen King books ever since.

A wonderful story of resilience. Didn’t think I’d connect so much to the main character. Super refreshing to read something shorter by the King. Loved the small elements of horror and the way it made you question what was real.

Totally liked it, but a little too much baseball, skipped those parts. I felt like I'm in the story and it was so fun to follow only one character. I was worried for her the whole time, have zero trust in King. I would also maybe like a longer book about this story, with 2 POVs - one Trisha's, what we had, and another following her family and search party.

Just okay. I think because I love "lost in nature" stories, I was expecting more focus on the psychological aspects rather than just "Trisha starts hallucinating". Also, no focus on her family other than as basic context was a little odd. Probably my least favorite King book thus far.

A good story. The references to The Dark Tower are always a plus, but I wish they were a bit more direct in this case.
