Girl, Stop Apologizing was…interesting. If I am being completely honest with you, rather, teenager-ish? She uses a TON of Pop Culture references and another thing that I had an issue with was her added words in the book…little sayings here and there that easily could have been left out, but I can’t help but feel like she used those to get to a word count. Also…a book that starts with a Demi Lovato song, while cute, not lovable (at least for me)!
There were A LOT of positive, great, thought provoking things that I absolutely LOVED about this book. The 10-10-1 and 5 hours a week ideas were brilliant and I actually plan to use those, but the back and forth with body image, being a mom, etc. was extremely UNRELATABLE. Not to be a total downer, but social status and flaunting her money is HUGE for her – once again, not relatable for me. Please keep in mind I am someone who is driven by PASSION, not dollar signs, and I feel that is where I clink heads with her. I believe at times, especially in this book, she is completely driven by a paycheck.
Also...for those of you who have read this book, have you noticed quotes in it that you have heard before? THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM. She is taking other people’s INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY and slapping her label on it. That immediately turned me off. Some people she quoted, but most, she did not give credit to AT ALL. Apparently there is a HUGE thing on the internet about this.
Overall, I would not recommend this book to you all. There were some really positive things (just Google the ones I talked about above), but there were A LOT of negative ideas/comments/etc. that were pitched in this book. I have to admit, I will be hanging my hat of Rachel Hollis books from this point forward.

I read Girl, Wash Your Face and really enjoyed it. This one I felt had a condescending ton about it. She can manage everything and other people figure it out, so why can't you? I am someone who feels I have my life fairly together, but still can use some motivation, inspiration, and insight. I like to self reflect and improve myself. This book was not worth my time, she talks about what are you willing to give up to achieve your goals....this book. I didn't even finish because there are plenty of good books out there. Really disappointed after how much I enjoyed her other one.
Exactly like the first one. Way too much copying & repetition for me.
hopeful
inspiring
lighthearted
fast-paced
I honestly loved some parts of this book and did not like others. I also was not the biggest fan of the writing style, but I can see how this would be very appealing to some women. I really enjoyed some points regarding the 10:10:1 method and took away some practical tips for goal-setting. A good read if you are looking for a motivational and lighthearted self help book.
Please no. I feel that we are rehashing a Twilightish fad again, despite this being nonfiction. Ladies, if you are looking to empower yourself for change, there are better ways. Poorly written, unilateral solutions to real problems that are going to need multifaceted problem-solving efforts over time. Do yourself a favor and go to therapy or read something written by a credentialed professional.
This book was a great follow up to “Girl, Wash Your Face”. I think any woman, no matter what stage of life she is in, would benefit from this book. I appreciate Rachel’s honesty about her own life and feelings that she has worked to overcome. I don’t feel like she lectures her readers, but she shares what she has learned from her own experiences. After reading this book I felt motivated to make changes in my life, not all of them big, but still changes that will make me a better, happier person.
Another quick and inspirational read. I’m off to do my Results list (and not a To Do list)!
The thing I love the most about Rachel Hollis is that she doesn't hold back. When she is passionate about something, as she is about helping women step into their power and go after their goals, she tells you how she feels about it and is completely unapologetic. And THAT'S why this book was the perfect follow up to "Girl, Wash Your Face". If you are new to Rachel Hollis, and you can handle honesty, this book and her words will be such a blessing to you and your life. And if it doesn't all resonate with you, take what you need and leave the rest. But if you've listened to Rachel or you've followed Rachel on social media for awhile, to be honest, a lot of the stuff in this book might be things you've heard before. That's because it's Rachel's philosophy, it's who she is, it's what she believes so strongly in that she gives a lot of it away for free on her social media. She does it because she truly wants to change women's lives and doesn't want to limit who gets to hear her message, and it's one of the reasons I admire her. And that's why I love this book so much. All of her motivational nuggets are in here, along with Rachel's trademark humor. Nobody can tell an embarrassing with the humor and motivation of Rachel Hollis. All of her stories of how she built up her business are laid out on these pages. Anytime I need a kick in the butt or some inspiration, I know just where I can go to find it - this book. I love the way she lays it out by the excuses we all tell ourselves, the behaviors we can adopt in order to go after our dreams, and the skills that every single one of us can acquire in order to more fully step into who we were made to be.
If you just want a cheerleader, Rachel might not be your girl and this might not be your book, because she is very honest and straightforward. But if you want a coach who will push you, who will tell it to you straight, motivate you, inspire you and refuse to let you give up on yourself, then there is nobody better. Girl, Stop Apologizing is the book that validates your desire to go hardcore for your goals and frees you from the guilt of wanting for yourself. And this book is not just for entrepreneurs who want to start or who already own their own business. Girl, Stop Apologizing has personally motivated me to pursue my personal goals regarding my home and my family. This is a book I'm going to refer back to time and time again, and a book I'll be referring to my friends, just as I am to you.
