Good for road trips, Neil Gaiman reads the audiobook. Especially interesting if you watch any of The Vikings-type shows, or American Gods.

Quick read, modern language, enjoyable take on Norse legends.

Quite an entertaining collection of retold Norse Myths. I really do enjoy the mythology and Gaiman really knows how to tell a magical story. He brings some of these characters to life and it was really fun to be involved with Loki's shenanigans.

Picked it up for vacation reading in England. Almost finished, but then had to start again from the beginning because it made great bedtime stories for my mythology loving kids. Yes, there's violence and sex (i.e. "they made love"), but not more than you find in, say, the Bible.

A retelling of the Norse myths by fiction author Neil Gaiman.
I've read a fair number of collections of fairytales, fables, myths, and folktales over the years, and this is just...what. I'm not really sure what the author was going for here. I've been through a bunch of the Old Norse sagas and both Eddas, and while I'm no expert, the tales here sound off, as though massive sections of the stories were removed or toned down for a younger audience. The voices sound like the Marvel film characters half the time, and half like the characters from Sandman, which I suppose might be expected, but it's jarring to the ear whenever modern, quippy dialogue shows up.
I can't recommend this. It wasn't terrible, but it's a handful of thin, inconsistently modernized tales, and feels like a Disney version of something rather more grim and awesome.
