this could have been so so good but I just feel a bit let down, the characters felt shallow and the whole plot was just a bit confusing and pointless and too long and oh my god why are they all so so pretentious ‼️

I am not sure why the reviews of this are so harsh? I had a wonderful time reading this.

I knew from the beginning the narrator was unreliable and that writer girl had something weird going on. This is the type of book you read not for actual plot but the vibes the narrator give you.

When I saw the description for this novel I was like:
Sapphic romance ✔️
Similar to Plain Bad Heroines which I loved ✔️ (though a lot darker)

Let me preface this by saying thrillers and horror stories are not my preferred genre and I didn’t realize how thriller-y this book was going to be.

My biggest problem with the book was the trauma manipulation. Each time Ellis did something to remind Felicity of Alex, which then made Felicity have a panic attack and feel like she was going crazy, I didn’t like that emotional manipulation at all. I thought there could have been a better way to push forward with the plot other than re-traumatizing her.

I did enjoy about 70% of the book, but from the end of Chapter 21 to the end of the book I didn’t really like where it went, even though the reader got hints that the plot would turn in that direction.

I did like the historical aspect of the story with the five Dalloway girls and the whole discussion surrounding their death, and the magical/witchy aspect of it.

I agree with others that to me it was easy to forget that these were teenagers and it would have been more plausible if they were college-aged.

Even though I didn’t enjoy some parts of this book, I definitely want to read some of Lee’s other books because I like their writing style!
