it fell flat for me, there were definitely things of merit but i felt like the trans/nb inclusion was a tickbox at best and could have been expanded on. it would've been interesting to see the parallels between how cis women's health has been pushed to the side for centuries, and how this is also happening to gender non conforming people.
i think this book would mean a lot more to you if you have endo, as thats a big focus of the book.
i think this would be better read by picking out the bits you're interested in, rather than cover to cover. i couldn't skim as it was on audio. it was quite repetitive.
The subject matter was interesting but just not for me, this one i think!

Well, I guess it's not in our heads, and some of us really are suffering and enduring more than necessary, and yes: it's chronic pain... I don't have endo but I do have pelvic inflammatory disease, which wasn't mentioned anywhere near enough in this book despite being similar in its MO to endo. A really, really informative book about what we suffer and why: crap research and an almost pathological habit of dismissing women. Sigh. I've come out the other end of this feeling reassured I've got a great GP, I'm not a hypochondriac, I'm not 'overly sensitive' and everyone needs to understand more about empathy and listening to patient instinct. Would love to see more research into PID and it's connection to other chronic issues as well because we are a silent bunch who are often stuck in the dark and we ensure as much as anyone with similar diseases if not more because of the stigma attached to it.

This is a great call to arms for people with female anatomy to look at their healthcare and how research on pain is undertaken. Some of the examples are infuriating given most people would know someone that has a similar story of being burned by the medical profession. Here’s to a brighter future with books like this pushing for more research and more attention.

This book was fantastic, it is written almost in the form of long form journalism and was very informative and eye opening. Especially for someone with endometriosis or women's health issues. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in learning more about the history or women's health and the history of it in medicine.
