This was so well written and narrated. I loved that when a character’s perspective was voiced that it was so throughly in character to show their state of mind, for example the photographer often thought about life in terms of exposure and dark room processes. The emotions were so relatable that I full on wept as I listened to one chapter on my drive home.
I wouldn’t say this was a sad book, but I thought it was going to be at the beginning and didn’t on if I could stomach the sadness. There is some element of fantasy in the story, but it plays a very minor role.
Okay, light warning: the author touches on topics of death, suicide, sex, and rape. I don’t want to turn anyone off, in writing that, because these topics are not a focus of the book. While it was a small surprise in listening to each of those moments, each topic is described delicately. For me, I felt the tension of knowing what was coming, without the full feeling of what could have been a more descriptive scene.

“A body always tells a story – but this child’s corpse was a blank page.”
3.5 Stars
A cute but almost absurdly long story for its plot, I enjoyed this novel but many, many parts of it dragged ruining the spontaneous adventure the novel sought to achieve.

I wanted to like this much more than I did. It was much too long, and all the interesting things happened in the last few pages.

This book has such a beautiful front cover. It's absolutely stunning and just makes you want to pick this book up.
The storyline is interesting and there's something inviting about this book. It's not my usual genre of books so I thought that I would give it a try.
The first chapter's are really good. They take place in the Inn and are welcoming and I wanted to keep turning the pages to find out more.
But quickly, when the mystery is well set in, you find yourself reading about the past and the present and it's rather confusing. I struggled to understand what was going on and who we were reading about as there's also a lot of different characters but unfortunately they weren't presented in an easy way and it's easy to get muddled up.
The story is a slow burn, it takes ages of going forth and back to understand what's really going on and to actually get a move on the story. Half way through the book and I felt that we could still be in the first few chapters.
This is really a shame as the whole idea seemed good and interesting, the twist were present i have to say but unfortunately it just ended being long winded and boring. Maybe if it had been written more in a novel type and less in a fairy tale, with clear distinction between the past and the present it could have been better.
