Definitely better than the last one. The only reason I didn't give it four stars was because I really hate it when the main character does something supremely stupid...Like giving themself up to the enemy in exchange for another's life/freedom. When does that ever work!? I really enjoyed the happy fun times between Rans and Zorah though.

Rans is bound and determined to figure out a way to help Zorah get her dad back from the Fae. Or at the very least, find out if he did indeed betray her. While he is busy calling everybody he knows and looking for any help or ideas, Zorah is already making plans of her own. Plans that do not involve Rans.

Her decision to turn herself over with help from Tinkerbell (I can't remember how to spell his real name) was rash and stupid. And boy does she pay for it. While she does find her father, she is immediately taken away to a prison cell of a sort. There she tortured, but not in the typical sense. More in the magical sense. So maybe it's better to say that she is put thru immense suffering before being hauled in front of their ruling body to receive her death sentence.

Imagine everyone's surprise when Rans shows up to save her in the only way he found out how. It's a dangerous bond he has formed, but he has no regrets. To say he is angry would be a vast understatement. But he learned something there that he had suspected all along. As a side note, it was awesome what happened to all the plant life around him while he was there.

We do learn a bit more about some things here, but nothing compared to the surprise at the end when it's figured out what Zorah's true heritage is.

Okay. I gave in and read this one because it was easier to continue a bad series than start a new series. It still had a lot of the issues I found in the first book (taking place over only a few days yet its pace still snail-like, an incessant and miserable inner monologue from the main character, and an excess of forced and cringe-worthy wit.) but I enjoyed it a little bit more. I think it's because the characters are slowly growing on me, and the stakes felt much higher than in the first book. Like, it was mild, but I still felt something other than irritation while reading this so that's good.
I'm gonna keep reading this series I think, and I feel like that means I should rate this book higher, but it was a bad book and while I'm enjoying it enough, I'm not. Enjoying it.

SpoilerI kinda loved how the last two chapters were so chill LOL a nice break after literally fifty percent of the book was passed in a torture chamber. Zorah is so fucking annoying but I'm glad she felt better so quickly and got to chill in a vacay cottage.

Flock review. This book is even better than the first, Ran and Zorah story picks up where book one left, and it gets way interesting. The storyline continues and the pace picks up, more action, and definitely more things going on. The audiobook definitely is an option, the narrator is the same as book one, Gwendolyn Druyor and she does a fantastic job narrating all characters, I would suggest the audiobook more than the book.

Aside from my usual complaint that this series could have been one single book instead of a series, I like everything here. The story is good, the characters are interesting (yes, still fan-girling about Albigard because of the other series) and I liked it. I’m less ok with some minor aspects that collide with my view of things, but that’s a personal matter and not on the book. That’s one of the reasons I didn’t rate higher, that and the fact that I simply liked Len‘s story more.

A very good read.

It takes up right where the previous book left off. This doesn't end in what I'd consider a cliffhanger but the mai n issue is definitely unresolved. I did find this one slightly less filled out than the first one. It's still good and worth the read.

As someone whose diet is similar to AIP because my immune system is a jerk, I have never felt so connected to a heroine before -- I too would immediately want to order a pineapple ham pizza if I could eat it without a reaction.

2.5, roundup

I’m finding that I don’t much like Zorah. I find her whiny and prone to too-stupid-to-live decisions (the narrator’s style might have something to do with this impression), and I’m finding that the woman-gagging-for-sex feels like it plays too closely into the subtle Western myth that woman can’t be trusted with their own sexuality because they’re just inherently weak to their own impulses. Plus, being part succubus was just really cliched and predictable. I do find some of the banter between Rans and her funny and there’s really nothing wrong with the writing itself. I’m just not much liking the main character and I’m a bit bored with the story as a whole.
