properly got me in the christmas mood
it was like a hidden gem in a hallmark movie collection - cheesy and christmassy but all in the best ways

"What the hell is 'mistletoe motive'?"
"C'mon, Frost. Stay with me. Having mistletoe is a tryst trap, a sensual snare. Like your alleged motives. You tracking?"
The Mistletoe Motive may be a holiday novella, but I was so into it that it felt like I was reading a full length novel. I was absolutely giddy reading this. While not a true enemies to lovers, I loved Gabby's energy and feistiness and Jonathan's 'I hate everyone but her'. The two had great chemistry. The slow-burn, leading to a very steamy happy ending and epilogue was well worth it! This charming holiday novella was the perfect holiday treat for me.
"Promise me you'll meet your online friend, okay?
He nods. "I promise. And you?"
"Yes." I swallow a lump in my throat. "I hope she's everything you wanted."
Jonathan stares down at me, searching my gaze. "I already know she is."
Read if you like:
• icy grump who’ll have you and Siri 'quaking' in the knees 😂
• feisty, sunshine heroine who loves romance novels & the holidays
• slow burn
• bookstore workplace rivals
• bickering & bantering
• holiday romcom novellas
• You've Got Mail + The Hating Game with holiday vibes
• single POV, with an epilogue in Jonathan’s POV
• #OwnVoices: autism, demisexual rep & Type 1 diabetes
cw: quick scene with a toxic ex-boyfriend

cuquísimo y perfecto para empezar el año/despedir la navidad ✨
I've been squeezing in some holiday reads for the tail end of the season as I don't want to wait another year to get to them. I'm pleased this book ended that holiday reading streak! It was so good for a novella, my only gripe is that I wanted more.
If you take The Hating Game, add in You've Got Mail, make it set during Christmastime, blend in with two loveably imperfect characters, then consume with narration by Erin Mallon and Jacob Morgan (aka Zachary Webber) and you get the perfect festive treat! I'm a goner, HA!
I love the neurodiverse and chronic illness representation, too.

I love Chloe Liese and The Mistletoe Motive was cute but it felt a lot like The Hating Game.. just make it Christmasy.
The Hating Game is an enemies-to-lovers co-worker romance where the man has been in love with the woman from day one, even though she thought he hated her the whole time and that led to them constantly bickering.
That is EXACTLY the context of The Mistletoe Motive, only they worked in a bookstore instead of a publishing company.. and it takes place during Christmas, which happens to be Gabriella’s favorite time of year. And of course, Jonathan’s least favorite.
I did really love the Autism and Type I Diabetes representation in this book. Chloe really knows how to make you feel seen with her representation and I absolutely love that.
If you’re looking for a cute/quick holiday romance, you’ll enjoy this.

The tension between the mmc en fmc is perfect. I really enjoyed this book and was sure I was going to give it 4 stars. But then the laat 2/3 chapters went to fast and threw me off. So that’s why I gave it 3 stars instead
I liked the relationship and I appreciated the twist even though I saw it coming. I also appreciated how reasonable the characters ended up being in the end. I did struggle with a bit of how extreme Gabriella felt about Jonathan in the beginning. I also don’t love the insta love that felt inauthentic to me.
