I loved this.
It had a slightly slow start but it soon picked up and ended up being a lovely, ghost-and-action-packed mystery novel with a side of romance that was sweet and lovely.
I adored both of the MCs but Rain was special. He's a bit slow to like but after a couple of chapters I fell in love. He's weird and hilarious, a bit of a sarcastic little sh*t too; he's always doing the opposite of what is wise and his inner voice was a delight to read. I loved his relationship with his family and the one he had with Danny was sweet and hot: I'm not the biggest fan of the "second chance love story" trope, so I was a bit worried that I wouldn't appreciate the romance bit. Instead, I really loved seeing them together, the bitterness and regret behind their interactions, and the hope too. They had tons of chemistry (TONS) and I'm looking forward to reading more of them.
Rain's peculiar ability and his interactions with the ghosts were probably the thing I loved the most and I'm both worried and excited to see what will happen after that ending.

Moderate: Murder
Enjoyable second chance romance
Cute story. Rain is an FBI agent who sees ghosts...at least he thinks he does, if he’s not going insane. His boss at the BAU needs to get him out of town since he caused an incident by talking to parents of a missing girl and implying he saw her ghost. Two months of forced medical leave later and he’s on his way home to Florida to assist the local PD with a missing person case. Oh, and yeah, his former boyfriend Danny is on that case. Fun times!
The character development is a bit slow and vague which makes it hard to grow attached to the MCs. The whole ghost thing is handled strangely. Rain isn’t sure he’s seeing ghosts, takes anti anxiety meds to make them go away. The ghosts aren’t much help either. It’s kind of off the beaten path from the typical mythology of ghosts and mediums so it’s not a smooth read. I kept shouting at the book for Rain to ask the ghost, Ethan, for help and for Ethan to demonstrate he’s real by helping!
I really couldn’t get a good read on Danny so that didn’t help me with the characters or getting into the story.
The crisis is just idiotic....no trained FBI agent would be as stupid as Rain is here. Pretty obvious what was going to happen. However the ending is sweet and I was left with the feeling things would be good, even if it is a 180 from the way virtually everything went in the book. Wish it was going to be a series so it could play out more and the author could smooth some rough edges.

Oh I loved this, please tell me there's going to be another one...
Medium FBI guy, Detective partner. Some similarities to Psycop, but different enough. Set in SoFLA. Enjoyable read.
This was enjoyable. I liked both Rain and Danny and even the little glimpses we got at the secondary characters. Will definitely be diving straight into book two. Fun and a little bit different.

So my first read by this author was back in 2017 and I recall saying to myself, "wow this is so good, I have to move all her other books up my tbr. Can't wait to read something else by her ." But then... I didn't. Fast forward to now and have to say that I kept sitting back as I read this and said to myself "OMG this book is fantastic." And it is. Rain and Danny are a match made in heaven but it's the writing with intelligence, humor, wit, sass and emotion that propel this book to 5 stars and beyond. Rain, a buttoned up G man with a flair for fashion and Danny, his ex-lover whom he left behind in Florida. Love this author's voice! Can take a genre I typically avoid and keep me engaged for hours. Great secondary characters, particularly Ethan. Hopefully, this time I will remember to read another of this author's books sooner than later. And it just so happens that I own book 2 in this series. Yayy!
Enjoyable

I really enjoyed this one. I liked Rain and Danny, but I just needed a little bit more from them. Danny's back and forward was a little annoying at times, even though I understood where he was coming from. I enjoyed the storyline and look forward to more

Second-chance romances aren't my catnip, but I can appreciate them if they establish several things: why the MCs initially got together, why they broke apart, and why things will be different the second time around. The first two are challenging because usually they take place before the book even begins. P.S. I Spook You, unfortunately, fails at almost all of the requirements. Harmon never shows (or even tells) how/why Danny and Rain got together, and although we know why they split up I never got the sense that either MC had spent a lot of time pining for the other while they were apart. There is more of a case to be made their new relationship will be stronger than the first once Rain tells Danny about his special talent (and Danny believes him), but I never really felt the strong connection between them (other than great sex) so I didn't have a lot invested in the pairing.
Other than that, I wasn't impressed with either the law enforcement or the paranormal aspects. There didn't seem to be a great deal of expertise or sophisticated practices for a cold case unit, and Rain's paranormal abilities didn't have a lot of consistency. Plus there's a TSTL moment that no self-respecting real police or FBI would have found himself in.
Rain as a first-person narrator was entertaining, with just the right amount of snark, but I wasn't a big fan of hard-ass, grumpy Danny. I downloaded both this and its sequel [b:Principles of Spookology|49200184|Principles of Spookology (The Spectral Files, #2)|S.E. I liked the e-sample enough to buy the book. Though it took me awhile to get hooked, once in I zoomed through the rest of it. Rain's delightfully weird and that's good, as this whole story is from his perspective. Loved the plot, the twists and turns and challenges. Loved the relationship. Loved his family. And I can attest to the accuracy of Florida summer. Great book.
