2.75, the writing of the (non-vampire) MC was lacking, in my opinion.

I was looking for a new read that’d satisfy my literary horror or gothic need, and was lured in by the “Argentinian feminist gothic” description. I liked how the two characters had two distinct voices, because part one is the vampire and part two is the human. However, it was underwhelming.. especially part two. On the back of the book, the description makes it seem like the characters meet halfway through the book, and thus a lot of pages dedicated to them and what’s about to come. They only meet somewhere in the last 30-20 pages or so… and nothing really happens. The human woman suddenly (literally the last page) decides to abandon her son, to be turned into a vampire and live with her in a mausoleum. Ok… disappointing read.

exceptionally well done. I love slice-of-life stories and this fit that bill for sure, but I think the vampire slice-of-life is such a different thing and it was so cool to explore that.

I know a lot of people might see the whole "vampire as death" thing as overdone which I think is a valid criticism, but I think it was done so well here that I can absolutely get past that feeling. like she represents so many different kinds of death--physical death, obviously, but also death of identities as you move through life, death of the world you thought you knew over and over again, death of trust in others and yourself. i think telling the vampire's story at the beginning and then letting her rest in the narrative flow as she's resting, trapped, in the world of the story was such a good move on the author's part.

idk it's hard to explain how I feel about this book but just know that the feelings are good lol

I def wanted to like this one more than I did, that said, I’m still glad that I read it.

I think the idea I had that I was getting a sapphic vampire lit story was somewhat mis-marketed, though there are sapphic situations happening, it’s really not that or even close to the focus. Which is why I picked it up, so that left something to be desired, for me. I will say that I think the themes of death, rebirth, fear and arousal, and motherhood and grief, were all interesting and there were def lines I highlighted and will stick with me, but the overall story and characters fell a little flat for me in the writing somehow, and I am def more of a character reader over themes, plots, and vibes.
