“Blood and dragon piss. You’re tied up?” Did he think I was eager to be flung atop a burning pyre?

This was my first omegaverse (after having read a bunch of books that used elements, but weren't fully omegaverse) and boy did I have a great time.

Summary
The Flame King's Captive is a captivating and intense romantasy novel that follows Isavelle, a young woman who is snatched from the jaws of death by Zabriel, the ruthless and powerful Flame King. As Isavelle navigates her new reality as Zabriel's captive, she must confront the dark secrets of her own country and the evil forces that threaten everyone she loves.

Characters
Isavelle is a strong and sweet heroine, whose resilience and determination make her a compelling and relatable character. Zabriel is a complex and intriguing hero, whose possessive and protective nature adds depth to the story. The chemistry between Isavelle and Zabriel is undeniable, and their romance is both intense and passionate.

Trigger Warnings
This novel contains mature themes, including violence, death, and captivity. However, these elements are not gratuitous and serve to advance the plot and character development.

Favorite Quotes

"He calls me his fated mate. The rarest. The most vulnerable. The one he craves to possess and protect."

"I am his, and he is mine. In this moment, nothing else matters."

"I'll burn the world to ashes before I let anyone harm you."

Overall Review
I was utterly enthralled by this captivating tale! The world-building was rich and immersive, the characters were complex and multi-dimensional, and the plot was engaging and suspenseful. The Flame King's Captive had me hooked from start to finish, and I found myself eagerly turning the pages to discover what would happen next.

SPOILER ALERT!

One of the things that really stood out to me was the way the author developed the romance between Isavelle and Zabriel. It was slow-burning and intense, with a palpable sense of tension and anticipation. I loved watching their relationship evolve from captivity to mutual respect and eventually, to passionate love.

I also appreciated the way the author explored themes of power, possession, and protection. Zabriel's possessive nature was both captivating and unsettling, and I loved the way Isavelle pushed back against his dominance.

The only reason I didn't give it a full 5 stars was that there were a few moments where the pacing felt a bit slow, and I wished for a bit more development in certain areas. However, these minor quibbles didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the book.

Overall, I would highly recommend The Flame King's Captive to fans of fantasy and romance. It's a thrilling and swoon-worthy read that will leave you breathless and eager for more! Rating: 4.5/5 stars.

DID NOT FINISH: 22%

I'm struggling a lot with the characters, mainly the female character, so for now I will DNF this book

Well I skimmed this a lot. I'm not super into the omega verse stuff and Isavelle is not a great character. Very annoying. Zabriel is an ok character I guess, at least he's not an alpha hole. I guess it's kind of subverting some usual tropes. Also, the storytelling isn't great either. The fantasy stuff is making me wish for a better book. But some of the smut is hot so I might read the next one since it's on kindle unlimited. I would like a complex FMC with agency, please universe!

The Flame King's Captive by Chloe Chastaine
★★★☆☆

Genres: Adult Fiction, Fantasy, Historical, Romance, Paranormal / Supernatural
Tropes: Fated Mates, Magic, Nonhuman Hero, Virgin Hero, Virgin Heroine, Omegaverse

Available on Kindle Unlimited

I generally liked this but am on the fence about whether or not I liked it enough to continue the series. The details about the dragons and the Maledinni (the people magically linked to the dragons) were interesting. That being said, omegaverse is often a little hit or miss for me, and I started to get really, really tired of Isavelle’s resistance toward everything by the time the book hit 75% or so. I understand (and even expect) her having to go through growth, but damn, I was getting tired of her by the end.

That being said, the spice is off the charts in this one.

Safety Stats:

Some mention of violence towards Isavelle by the villain. Some descriptions of violence and death, including the death of a child.
HEA/HFN?:
Cliffhanger, this is the first book of a series.
