I knew I had a high chance of enjoying this first volume and it did not disappoint. This manga tells the story of Frieren, an elf mage who along with three others traveled the land and brought peace. When they return home, she takes off to find magic telling her friends that she will see them in 50 years, a blink of time to her but so much longer for her human friends. When she returns and finds them so aged, she starts to realize the difference and begins a new journey to make amends of sorts. I will definitely continue reading this one.

I loved the first season of the anime. This story is so sweet, and the emotional arc is delightful. Frieren is a elf, and has lived a very long time, and will continue to live for a long time more. After the completion of a 10 year long adventure,  she leaves her companions to spend some time alone. When she returns 50 years later, she is surprised at how well her friends still know her, and at how little she knew them. This is the story of a girl trying to reconnect with her past as she journey's on with new friends, whose lives will be just as short as her previous companions.

WOW did I love this!

This series is about an elf girl who, many years after they defeat the demon king, realizes how little she knew of her friends as they pass away. She of course is near immortal and has not thought about how fleeting life is for humans.
This leads to her to change and wishing to understand those around her. This is a contemplative and introspective series that shines with the quiet strength of its subject and emotions. Lots of things here are deep and full of meaning. Moments feel like a beautiful sadness put to the page and that is something truly difficult to pull off. I’m only 1 volume in and this is a triumph of Manga already. It helps also that the art is as good as it is. Fantastic!!

I'll definitely continue this series. I love the pacing and the concept. A seemingly immortal and self-centered elf trying to find a deeper connection with humanity. It's another series I didn't know really anything about, and the first volume was a great surprise.
