I have a soft spot for Maisie so my review might be a bit partial. I enjoy another episode of this wel written and intriguing story. I love the historical setting, the unfolding of the investigation and the stories behind the main subject. I am not disappointed and I will certainly continue to the next chapter

I loved the first in this series and fear I've read the rest too quickly, as I've become a bit bored with the characters and plot progression. I'm interested to see what Sarah thinks of it.

Audiobook: 09hr 20m

The threat of what we would now call bioterrorism would make for a prickling read at any time, but surely the global pandemic and regular lockdowns we are currently experiencing make the cut of this story all the sharper. Chemical warfare chills the blood. Good mystery with supremely high stakes.

I read the book of this, it some how is only listed as an audio on goodreads.

This was a total psychological thriller! It totally could be a movie!

It was a really cool book and had some sad things going on as well, but still so good!

Love the characters, time period and the whole series!

The clock is ticking down towards an event that would destroy innocent lives unless Maisie can save the day. This "episode" in Maisie's story is more exciting than poignant. An entertaining listen.

I think this has been one of my favorites from the Maisie Dobbs series so far! I liked getting to read snippets from the mad man’s diary throughout after the main storyline would finish or before a chapter would begin. The ending did seem to drag on for a bit after the big conclusion of the mystery which is really only one of the two qualms I have with the book. The other is that it took me longer to read due to longer chapter lengths, but overall, still enjoy able.

After two Maisie Dobbs novels I was eh-ok about, this one was great! She's back in London! There are threats of terrorism, 1930s-style! Warring national security factions step on each others' toes IMPOLITELY! You'll be unsurprised to hear that I cringed mightily at American-Doing-An-Accent reader Orlagh Cassidy's Scottish brogue as Detective Chief Superintendent Robert MacFarlane, and YES, Maisie uses his whole title every time she addresses him, and I know the word "och" featured with regularity, but I survived, and so, unsurprisingly, did Miss Dobbs. Spoiler alert? But not really because there are nine more novels in the series. So far. Anyway, this one was enjoyable.

This was definitely one of the more suspenseful novels in the Maisie Dobbs series so far. The novel kept me guessing right up until the end. I still can't believe how great this series is!! Thanks to Courtney for such a great recommendation.

A god addition to the Maisie Dobbs canon. The ending seemed a little rushed & unfinished, but the compassionate story line about shell shock carried through.
