Heartbreaking.
Usually with Picoult's books, I think "I learned something" whicb I guess is true with this one too but it doesn't feel great.

Story told from both different character perspectives and different points in time

Not my favorite. There is a lot of unnecessary storylines. It doesn't seem streamlined as her other books. It started out promising and then it fizzles. Eh...

Jodi Picoult has a wonderful gift of creating deep, rich characters. Despite that in this book, the overall story was not as compelling as I've found some of her other books.

Jodi Picoult is one of my favorite authors. I love reading her books and trying to figure out the twist because there is always one and I am usually left sitting in shock for a good 5 minutes or crying. During this book, I tried to figure out the twist and I finally did! I was actually sad I figured out the twist because it wasn't as shocking as I thought it would be. Overall, I still loved the story line and the writing.

I usually love Jodi’s books, but this was such a disaster. Every brown or black character is written in heavy negative stereotypes. Writing about the Hopi woman and people in the way she did was disappointing and disrespectful.
Yt authors need to stop using racial slurs in their writing - it gives off the biggest ICK. Stop.

The plot line with Andrew was absolutely ridiculous. He kidnaps his daughter to give her a better life - a loving and wholesome one, only to get caught for it as a grandpa and becomes “prison mike” from The Office in the county jail???? It was so much cringe. I’m honestly surprised I finished it.
