Very disappointing ending... book had a lot of promise until the last couple of chapters.
I am normally a big fan of Jodi Picoult and loved Nineteen Minutes, Small Great Things, Spark of Light and My Sisters Keeper but I did not enjoy this book. This story centres on Delia, loving mother and wife. Having been raised by her single dad following the death of her mother, Delia’s life is thrown upside down after the police come knocking on their door and her father is arrested for kidnapping. As the realisation that she is herself the kidnapped child and her mother is not dead at all Delia goes looking for the truth, but will she like what she finds? I didn’t care for most of the characters in this book, and there are many sub plots which could have been left out to make the book much more streamlined. The is a strange relationship between, Delia, her husband Eric, and their best friend Fitz which destroyed any sympathy you might have had for Delia and by the end of the book there were many questions left both unraised and unanswered. Such a shame but it won’t put me off reading more book by Picoult in the future.

Jodi Picoult always knows how to dig deep into human relationships, and Vanishing Acts is no exception.
The story follows Delia, who has spent her life thinking she had a perfect childhood - until she discovers her father kidnapped her as a child to keep her safe from her mother. From there, everything unravels, and JP does what she does best: different angles, multiple perspectives, and no easy answers.
The perfect page turner.
Really enjoyed the Delia/Fitz/Eric love triangle more than anything. There were definitely some interesting legal questions raised as well. What's right, versus what's legal, and the gray areas in between.
Biggest complaint was how nicely everything wrapped up at the end.

So, this was my first Jodi Picoult book. All I knew of her before was her fame and I had seen the movie adaptation of My Sister's Keeper. This book was amazing. The way the story is told gives you a holistic view of the events. Each chapter is narrated by a different character mixing present events, flashbacks, and philosophical insights (if that's the best term for it...maybe psychological insight is more fitting).
The characters are flawed, but sympathetic. The ending was satisfying but not perfect (and also not an exact opposite of perfect).
I can't wait to read the next book of Picoult's. Not sure yet which that will be for me.

I wanted to love this book but the middle section was very slow and broke into too many story lines, making it hard to follow the main storyline. The ending was very predictable and very sudden.
