Funny and quirky. This was a quick read and just the right amount of fluff to get me out of my reading funk.

Thwonk is a beautiful story by Joan Bauer. The main characters in this story are Peter, A.J, and Johnathon. The characters in this story are her dad, her mom, Pearly, Steilitz, Tucker, Gary, and Alconstanzo.
This story is about a girl who is sitting at lunch. Then she leaves with her friends, and hits a cupid. Then she starts to take care of it. The king of hearts dance was coming up , and she had no one to go with. So she told the cupid to shoot Peter in the heart so that he will fall deeply in love with her. The king of hearts dance was coming up and they were going out. So they went to the king of hearts dance together, and they won the crown. Then for some reason, she wanted the cupid to shoot Peter and make him not love her anymore. So after the cupid shot peter in the heart they went on with their lives.
I really liked this book. I would give this book a five out of five.

This is my least favorite Joan Bauer so far. I love the rest of her books, but I didn't really get into this one. The character development was a little off.

I’m normally a huge fan of Joan Bauer, but this one fell flat. AJ, the protagonist, lacks dimension. She’s over dramatic, and not the type of character one expects on a novel about a high school senior. The plot was simple and cliche- protagonist wishes something from a supernatural entity, it didn’t turn out the way she wished, she learns lesson.
It seemed like this book was written for elementary school students from a high school perspective, but I wouldn’t choose to share it with my 5/6 graders as there are much better, deeper choices with more opportunity for critical thought also written by Bauer.

Written in 1995, it contains some allusions teens might miss. Also, some of the writing is lacking, but not enough to make me stop reading. The plot is fun.

The main reason I read this is because I just wanted an easy YA read. But I also figured I could count on Joan Bauer to serve up something more intelligent than the general fare.
I think this is Joan Bauer's only book that has a magical element, but I ended up really liking how she did it. Jonathan the Cupid was the best character, really.
A.J.'s obsession with a boy obviously not worth it made me want to bang my head against a wall. I was incredibly grateful that Joan Bauer didn't offer up another male character who has "always been there for A.J. and is her true love though she doesn't know it blah blah blah" or whatever. These types of stories usually have a character like that. *twitches* So yes, A.J. gained maturity (and didn't go straight from Boy A to Boy B). I am eternally grateful.
This is not my favourite of Joan Bauer's books by any stretch (though I'd actually give it 3.5 stars), but still worth the read.

A cute satire on the teenage heart and the need for self-fulfillment before romantic entanglements--especially immature ones.

This book wasn't the best but it was entertaining. It had been on my to-read shelf for the longest time but I don't know why I never read it. I like the message that this book had "be careful what you wish for".
