I don't think a book has made me this mad before and I love it. I had to shut this book and walk away from it multiple times from all the twists and turns but I do think that added to my reading experience. The romance in it does play a big role in it and was a big reason why it made me mad at times (look love triangles aren't my thing and I wasn't expecting it honestly) but I liked how it was handled and how you can see why this book is not a simple romance novel. I loved Xingyin - for her drive, passion, loyalty, and wit, but also because she is imperfect. We get to see her grow and progress and despite all of her achievements throughout the book, we still get to see that at the end of the day, she just wants to be at home with those she loves. Very good book but I'm gonna need a good amount of time to process what I just read- Truly an emotional rollercoaster.

Also I have mommy issues and love the moon so

for the first half of the book it was like a 3.5 for me, i felt like the pacing was weird and rushed at times with a lot of time jumps. i get that they’re immortals and ‘time means nothing’ but still felt jarring at times. however, the second half of the book made me bump it up to 4. the betrayal i didn’t see coming and the drama i felt was very engaging. i also really liked how the the fmc’s thought process was written.

Beautiful story, wonderful characters, lovely prose, and a great retelling of the Chinese mythology about the Moon Goddess.
I loved Xingyin so much—she was such a refreshing heroine. She was strong yet feminine, without it dampening her strengths as a warrior. Stories like these are why I love reading so much. The writing was very lovely but I’m only giving it 4 stars because the pacing was kinda fast. So many things happened at once, it felt like the characters didn’t get a single break. Despite the neck breaking speed of events though, I still adored this book.
