Daughter of Sparta is a reimagining of the Greek myth of Daphne and Apollo. I know some people have trouble getting into Greek mythology because of its dizzying world of gods and what not... but I think Andrews wrote this in a way that you don't need to have extensive knowledge and you can easily enjoy her take on this myth.

On her quest to hunt down the 9 items stolen from Olympus, Daphne's accompanied by her wolf sidekick, the ever so charming god Apollo and others that make up this dysfunctional rag tag group to save Olympus and the mortal world from chaos. In all seriousness, if I were given this task and had to work with Apollo, Olympus and world would be doomed. Daphne has been trained to be a Spartan warrior, and desperately wants to prove her worth and be accepted. Once she sets her mind on something she doesn't give up. Blood, sweat, tears (lots of tears) can't hold her back as she spears through riddles, beasts and gods.

I got questions! I need answers! Some scenes felt like they were done before they even started ๐Ÿ˜‚ and I just needed a little oomph! Overall with its lush writing, female empowerment, action, adventure, humor and romance, there's potential here and I definitely will be reading the sequel!

Daphne is chosen by Artemis to get information and relay that information to Apollo. That is all but when Daphne finds out what exactly is wrong with Olympus, she decides that she is going to help. Whether it kills her or not.

I really don't know where to start with this book. None of the characters are all that interesting. Throughout the entire book Daphne is trying to be a Spartan but is told that she can't be. Then she is told that she is something much greater but everyone refuses to tell her what that is. So she's basically stuck in this kind of limbo where no one knows what or who she is, not even the reader. Then all of the supporting characters around her were very flat and didn't seem to care about her whatsoever. There are main character deaths that just really lack impact. This whole book I was waiting for Daphne to finally come into her powers and found out who she was but that never happened. It was kind of a bummer.

The writing was really excellent though. The world building was also nice but the characters were just lack luster in my opinion. If you love greek mythology definitely give it a read, if that isn't your genre I would skip it.

I was disappointed in the potential this story had. It felt like it fell a bit flat, primarily because of the main character seemed to have no feelings or emotions.

This is a creative way to tell Daphne and Apollos story. I had a hard time putting this one down. It kept me on the edge of my seat and wanting more. There were alot of intense battle scenes and a few moments of potential love. But in the end the book followed a brave and strong girl from Sparta. She was put through a alot of crap and alot of pain. Made new friends met new enemies and overall a great read.

I definitely can't wait for the sequel to come out next year in the fall. It's said to be in October of 2022 but I'm hoping for sooner, we shall see.

On a side note for those wanting to read but not wanting to be left hanging for a second book, please note the ending isn't one to leave you hanging. I would have thought it to be a standalone had I not looked at the authors website.

3 stars!

I just finished this and I'm disappointed that this isn't a new favourite.

I loved the premise and the story itself kept me interested, I thought everything just seemed very rushed in places and boring but I really liked the story and how it had Female warriors, greek gods and enemies to lovers romance but I wasn't blown away from it unfortunately.

I think it's good and I do reccomend it! It'll definitely be a book I'll reccomend when anyone asks for greek mythology recommendations.
