Great story concept but I was really bored. It just moved too slow. I wanted to love it but it lacked the excitement I was hoping for. Good story line and kept me yearning for more

The story started off not bad at all. It was interesting, with a strong female lead and everything I could get on board for. But quickening towards the middle of the book it started to get all too convenient. Gods popping up left and right with no lead in to why their purpose is necessary and a love story that makes no sense. I just wish the strong female lead the start of the story promised followed through.

I’ll admit, despite being a fan of Greek mythology I wasn’t very familiar with the myth of Daphne and Apollo. But that actually made it even better, I was more surprised by certain things in the story so it didn’t seem like something I had already read before. I did enjoy how this felt like the beginning of the Percy Jackson series all over again because I’m such a big fan of it, and while it wasn’t quite that good, it was a very enjoyable story. I did like the characters quite a bit too, and I’m really excited for the next entry.

The really frustrating thing about this book is that it has a lot of genuinely good ideas, and the intense research that went into creating this world really shows, but the good qualities are marred by the novel's poor execution. Having a competent editor strengthen the sentences and paragraphs would have helped. Letting the
Spoiler Muses have personalities instead of treating them as voiceless McGuffins would have also helped. And, outright eliminating the romantic interest between Daphne and Apollo would have made this a much stronger book. Their romance didn't make sense and I can't count how many times I rolled my eyes over their interactions. Overall I think this book should have gone through another draft or two before its publication.

3.5 rating. Definitely for someone who is into greek gods and literature from that aspect can really sink their teeth into it. Pretty fun and easy read that does not overload you with information. Also a cute relationship just for my personal preference it was a little harder to get into (just cause I'm a stickler about greek god books). But a really fun concept and great writing.

I have been waiting for so long to get my hand on Daughter of Sparta and let me tell you - I wasn't disappointed at all. Well, I guess in a way I was a little but that's due to the lack of romance throughout this. Yeah, we get hints and maybe a kiss or two.. but that's it. Ugh. Don't give me chemistry and then basically zero romance. It just didn't make sense to me.

Other than that, I really liked getting to know Daphne. Even though we started off knowing how her douche of dad really thought of her - which, yes, broke my heat a little bit. Then we see her become a little bad ass and go on this really awesome adventure. Heck, I was having the time of my life once the gods and goddess entered as well. I'm pretty sure I should have been suspicious of things way before I actually started to.. but I still ended up enjoying all the twists, turns, and betrayals.

I'm not sure what's going to happen in the next book but after that ending - I definitely need to dive into it. Beyond excited for it all.
