This book would really help someone during an anxiety spell.

It was good but not quite what I thought it was going to be.

If the author doesn't have a dull podcast where he shares his thoroughly uninspired takes with the world, I will be amazed.
And the lists! My god, list after list after list. Notes from a nervous planet is a blog post dragged out to fill a word count.

This kind of books feel like pop music. So easy to read, entertaining and pleasant. The first 3/4 of the book definitely deserve a better rating. As always Matt Haig is entertaining, smart and his thoughts and ideas are thought provoking. However the last quarter of the book I found to be really repetitive and dragged out. As if he had to deliver 300 pages. Especially because I read "reasons to stay alive" and absolutely loved it, I perhaps had higher expectations. This review is completely subjective and I could see how this book could be really rewarding for others. I would not recommend not reading it.

It is a lovely little book. Good timing for me. Nothing groundbreaking or anything, but sometimes what you need to read is a little book of random musings on anxiety and mental illness.
Here are some notes I made while reading. These are for me and won't be much use for others.
--so much gentler than Cal Newport
--12: if we feel bad, doesn't matter what else is good
--60: old people aren't as worried about agin
--61: dying people regret fear the most
--215-219: good stuff on addiction and mental health
--221: be happy with yourself *minus upgrades*
--220: non-socially acceptable addictions force you to stand back from your distractions
--223: B. Russell quote
--241: my aim!

Ihana kirja!!
I began to read this book in paperback and found it almost unbearably smug. Then I went on vacation, forgot to pack it, and ended up downloading the audiobook (which I think is narrated by Matt Haig himself). For me, the experience was night and day. In Haig's voice, what I had read as smug suddenly sounded authentic and riveting. Ultimately, this book was a nice reminder of how to be good to ourselves and those we love.
But read the audiobook instead of print!

I’ve read one of their books before, but this one while it did contain some helpful and thought-provoking bits, it was a bit messy, unfocused, and redundant.
