Come to Me Softly was much less dramatic than I anticipated, and so, I enjoyed it more than I expected. There were some things that were resolved a little bit too easily for my liking, but the overall story and character development was really good, and I am looking forward to reading the last book in this trilogy.

Some books do not need a sequel. This was one. It was so boring I couldn’t finish it.

****3.5 STARS****

I’ve had a hard time decided how many stars to give this book so I decided to split it down the middle. It’s not that I didn’t like this book—it was a good story with strong character development. I just felt like it really dragged at some parts, took a while to develop, and then when things happened it took off like a rocket. I got a little frustrated with a lot of the internal dialogue with both characters. There is only so much “he’s good enough but doesn’t see it/he needs to forgive himself/needs help” and “I hate myself/I’m never good enough/She’s the only light in my life” dialogue I can take before I start skipping big paragraphs. That’s where I ended up with this book. But the redeeming feature was the last two chapters and the epilogue. The epilogue was where I decided this book was worth it. I just wish that the character development
Spoiler when Jared finally went to see his dad and talk things through/seeing his mother’s grave
would have happened a little sooner and we could have experienced a little more of his road to forgiving himself. It almost felt like he was just better and forgiving freely all the sudden. While I know his character still struggled majorly we never got to see that. I would have liked to see that struggle versus the struggle of admitting he needed help throughout most of the book. Overall, character development drove this story—which was refreshing. It was a solid end for Aly and Jared’s story.

I ended up skimming a lot of this. The first half was somewhat boring to me but I did enjoy the second half. Overall this was just ok for me.

This book destroyed me. Ohmygod. I cried so fucking much it's not even funny and it was so unexpected how I grew so attached to the characters and their story. The writing was really good, it just made me feel all the feelings. The despair, the guilt, the hopelessness and the love of these characters. This is definitely not a light-hearted fluffy book. It deals with a lot of issues and I found myself just rooting so much for Jared and Aly.

New adult is usually a hit or miss with me but this one was most definitely a hit and I cant wait to read more of the series and more of A.L. Jackson's books.

10/10 would recommend.

*****6 stars*****

I don't even know where to start writing this review. I haven't had this much trouble articulating my thoughts in a very long time. Let me start by saying AL Jackson is a literary genius. The way that she uses words just blows my mind. I really loved Come to me Quietly and that is a 5 star read for me. But, Come to me Softly is more. It's deeper, hauntingly spectacular and it's more than 5 stars. I was so absorbed in this story that I felt like I was there. The writing is some of the best I've ever had the pleasure of reading.
Jared comes back to Aly but nothing has really changed. He's still running from his past. Unable to overcome the guilt of what he believes that he has done. He does not feel worthy of Aly's love or the love of anyone. But, he wants to be with her. He needs to be with her. It's like air for him. He can't breathe with out her. He is a tortured soul just keeping the guilt and sadness down far enough for weeks at a time. But he can't continue to go on this way. Aly has loved him her entire life. She feels him and she is his lifeline, but she can only take so much. She's strong and independent and does not want to live with out him, but she needs him to fight his demons and fight for them and their family. We see more of Christopher (YAY!) and more of Aly's parents. A few laughs did escape me. Jared and Christopher have their own issues to overcome, but they both try to remember that they have been best friends since they were little boys and not even time and space can smother that kind of bond. Jared is hot, sexy, broody, amazing. There are almost no words to describe his awesomeness. I love him. I've missed him and I'm not sure I'll ever be the same with out him. This story is filled with love, loss, pain, joy, humor, hope, sex, destruction, creation, forgiveness, peace, and life. It's a top 5 read of 2014 for me. Do not miss this amazing story.

I pressed all my hard to her soft, holding her close against me as I flattened myself to the snowy skin of her back. Mmm...yeah. I was in love with this girl. And I wasn't going to let her go.

Instinctively, I twisted a lock of her hair with my finger. A bond. My home.

And damn if just that little brush didn't cause every last inch of my body to harden.
Motherfucking trigger.

He dropped his cigarette to the ground and toed it out with his boot. Lifting his face, he pursed his lips and exhaled toward the sky. Smoke curled around his head, climbing toward the heavens before it bled into nothing.

A throaty chuckle rumbled from his mouth and floated out to embrace my sense in an inundating swell of joy. My heart pounded as he squeezed himself through the hole that led to the center of our world, where our dreams had been bred, where we'd discovered and grown into the people we were.

"I can't live without you, baby...can't sleep without you...can't breathe without you."

I melted. Then fell a little further for this man. Impossible? It should be. But in that moment I slipped deeper in love with him.
