I loved this book! I could not put it down. I felt like I could relate to Samantha, and not just because we share a name ;). She needed to find herself and know her worth. This was very well written. You could feel exactly what the characters felt. The flashbacks were on point, too. It took me back to my teen years and I felt they were portrayed perfectly.

Oh my beating heart what a read this was 🥰📕 love the giver and the dedication 😉 Samantha and Renee have been friend forever and a day s o when she gets married it’s only natural that Samantha will be the maid of honour ❣️ At the very last minute Samantha’s boyfriend Steven lets her know he can’t make it but that no surprise he always seems to put his needs and wants first and Sam just goes with the flow but I think , no I know she finally reached her limit but that you’ll have to read for yourself 😉 Samantha now has to do this road trip with Tristan , Renee’s brother and growing up they shared a disdain for him but what Renee doesn’t know is that Tristan and Sam have a secret of their own …. Samantha and Tristan start their road trip and he awakens a part of Samantha that has been dormant for so very long and she deserves so much better and I’m grateful she doesn’t settle and goes for what her heart desires 😉🥰 I did have a few unanswered questions but I’m not going to complain because that’s the perfect opportunity for a sequel I think 😉 I really fell I. Love with Samantha and Tristan and how can I not bee a cram , Samantha is team Edward 🥰🤣 and Tristan call he “ Sammie Smiles” that just melts my heart 💓 Really excited to get the next instalment 🥰📕

The Boy I Hate is a great romance about a girl who falls in love with her best friend's big brother. Samantha and Renee are so close that they may as well be sisters. They are attached at the hip and do everything together, including hate for Renee's big brother, Tristan. At least that's what Samantha wants Renee to believe, because deep down she's got feelings for Tristan she'd rather not feel. She wants to feel these feelings for her best guy friend, Steven, who has been in love with her since Elementary school. The author did an amazing job of developing such realistic characters, you can't help but relate to them and their stories as they unfold. This story takes place between the present day, and 6 years prior when a life-altering occurrence happens to Samantha that she has yet to reveal to anyone. She'd rather pretend that it never happened and move on with the life she's trying to coast by, not realizing that she deserves to live for herself and not always be so compromising for others' wants and needs. This is a great romance about self-discovery and seeking the formula for true happiness. I was so excited to read that there is another book coming to this series, where we get to continue Samantha's story.

Character
When Samantha is the maid of honor in her best friend, Renee's, wedding, she has to head across the country on a road trip with Renee's brother, Tristan. Growing up, while other girls wanted to be Renee's friend to get to Tristan, Samantha just wanted to be friends with Renee. However, there is a secret that Samantha has held on to for years...that her and Tristan shared a kiss once. Even if these two could have been something, being Renee's best friend, and Tristan's "womanizing" ways, put an end to that. Now they are stuck on a road trip where the past and these feelings are bound to come up. What happens when the "hate" they have held on to is all for nothing and there is more to each of them than meets the eye. But, as truths come out, can Samantha have the boy and keep her best friend?!?
I had some mixed feelings reading this book. Seems each were childish in their younger days...and I can accept that they have matured. However, Samantha's "boyfriend" is still in the picture when the book starts. I know it is a story and we can get wrapped in the resurfacing of feelings...but still. Overall, the book was hard to put down because I wanted to see how it would all come together. As a woman in her 40s...some it moved a little fast. But, overall, a good story that kept me turning the pages.

The Boy I Hate is book 1 in The Road Trip series by Taylor Sullivan. I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars, highly recommended. The story line is very relatable and super realistic for a lot of readers, myself included.

When we begin this book we meet Samantha. Samantha is an artist and her bestfriend's name is Renee. There are many flashbacks throughout the book going back to memories from when Samantha and Renee were younger. They're adults now and it is time for Renee's wedding. Samantha was supposed to drive from LA to NY for the wedding, low and behold her long time boyfriend Steven informs her, at the last minute, that he can no longer make the drive with her because he got a new internship that will really help his career. Renee does not want Samantha to make that drive by herself so she sets it up for Samantha to ride with Tristan, Renee's older brother. Tristan is the typical "cool guy" who doesn't care about anyone's feelings and gets any girl he wants. Or is he? While on the road Steven lays a big bomb on Samantha that she just can not handle. Will Smanatha continue to deal with always coming 2nd to Steven's career? Will Tristan reveal he may not be who we thought him to be? Will either of them have a happy ending? Only one way to find out.

A cross-country road-trip with your nemesis to attend (and stand up in) your best friend's wedding-what could possibly go wrong? Oh, yeah, you could end up doing the one thing your bestie asked you not to do and fall in love with her brother.
The characters are easy to like, and it's easy to relate to them. How many of us knew the pretty boy in high school? The untouchable guy who had it all. The all-star American athlete who got away with everything. The guy who broke your heart and acted like it was just another notch in our belt. Almost every girl has had a crush on that guy-and some of us end up hating him. Samantha's feelings are very relatable. It was easy to get inside her head and feel what she was feeling in the moment...because I've been that girl. It's harder for me to see Tristan as he's depicted because that's not how I see most of the guys I went to high school with.
What will happen? Will they realize they are meant for each other? Will Samantha risk her friendship with Renee because of her feelings for Tristan? Is Tristan really the sweet down-to-earth he seems to be or is he playing with Samantha's head?
The only complaint I have is that it is not dual POV and the flashbacks happen a little too often- and there's really no sense of closure from the epilogue. I'm hoping that the next book will expand on what happened to them a little bit more.

Sullivan's writing is captivating and sincere, enabling readers to form a strong connection with the characters and their struggles. The chemistry between Samantha and Tristan is unmistakable, and their evolving relationship is both realistic and deeply moving. The themes of forgiveness and overcoming personal obstacles are skillfully integrated into the narrative, adding depth to the romance. The Boy I Hate is a delightful read that will maintain your engagement from start to finish. It's a story about second chances, growth, and the unpredictable nature of love. Highly recommended for fans of contemporary romance!
I actually read this one a couple of years ago and just reread it so I was ready for the second one, and it's still fantastic. I would have liked a dual pov to see into Tristans head a little bit, but the story was great without it.
As a former teenage girl, I feel that this story was so realistic with getting into Elizabeth's head when she was 16 and developing feelings for someone she didn't think she should be.
I highly recommend this story, and can't wait to read the next one.
