The Boy I Hate
By Taylor Sullivan
4 stars!
I really enjoyed this story! This is the second book that I have read by this author and I think she has such a lovely relaxed writing style. Her characters are always easy to connect with and the stories just seem to flow really well. I am a fan of second chance romance stories and this one was even more enjoyable because of the road trip that the characters went on! The descriptive writing was really good and I could imagine all the different places they went to and stopped along their way. I really liked Samantha after a while I have to admit! She is definitely one of those characters who you grow to like! I think I fell in love with Tristan straight away! I do love an alpha bad boy!! I really enjoyed the relationship between the two of them it was so obvious that they were attracted to each other but for their own reasons were pushing each other away. I liked the mix of past and present telling of the story as I think it deepened my knowledge of the characters and how their relationship came about. There were also some good secondary characters in the story namely Sam’s best friend Renee, who also happens to be Tristan’s sister.
It didn’t take me long to be completely absorbed in this story and I read it in one sitting! I know I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.

I like the idea of this story. Traveling many miles with someone from your past who you don't really like. This could bring about a very exciting or disastrous trip. I really liked certain parts of this road trip. When they actually conversed it was good. When she spent so much time in her head or using her headphones...not. This trip brought Tristan and Samantha to a certain understanding.
Samantha is a girl who is good with comfortable. Until she realizes her life is not what she thinks it is and things need to change. This road trip helps her out because it's almost like her past meeting her present. She does spend quite a bit of time in her head thinking over her current situation. I really wasn't sure if Tristan liked her or not until she had a conversation with a waitress when she mentioned how he "Looked" at her. Then I thought A-Ha!
Tristan is a guy we don't know much about other than what he tells us since the story is told from Samantha's POV. It does flitter back and forth between their interactions from six years ago. Those were filtered in nicely.
Tristan does say " I do not lie" which at the time made me wonder if he is telling the truth. But it turns out..he doesn't lie. He is a nice guy.
This was not a favorite book of mine. I liked the idea of the story but it was a little boring at times during the actual trip. Once the got to the hotel the action picked up and I enjoyed it much more.

The Boy I Hate by Taylor Sullivan is a new adult-contemporary romance novel that will pull you in from the first word until the last. This story is about finding yourself and maybe love along the way. I enjoyed this author's writing style and her attention to details. Her creation of characters are connectable and true to life. They will pull you into their story and keep you engaged until the end. They will take you on a roller coaster of emotions that will you will laugh, cry and have compassion for them. Find out what happens to these characters as they just might find more then what they were looking for.
Samantha Smiles and Renee Montgomery are best friends and have one thing in common, their hatred of Tristan Montgomery, Renee's brother. He was the guy that every girl wanted and every guy wanted to be like him. People would even go as far to befriend Renee just to get close to him. This was one of the reason's Samantha and Renee became best friends, Samantha was the only girl she could trust not to fall in love with her brother. Then one night changed everything for Samantha. Everything she knew about Tristan was left her questioning the true him.
It is now years later and Renee is about to get married. When she sets up for Tristan and Samantha to ride across country together what will happen? Will she discover that he is no longer the man she once thought he was? Will they fall for each other? How many things will be put in jeopardy when their truth comes out? What will happen to her when for the first time in her life, she has found a love and passion but what will she have to give up to be happy?
Samantha and Tristan had one night as teenagers that made her question who he really was. Now years later, when he doesn't seem to remember that night but she does. She starts questioning her current relationship and if that is what she truly wants. When she starts seeing a different side to him, will she change her mind about him? They are both truly strong characters that have gone through so much in their life. Now new changes, will Samantha adjust to what life has to offer her? I love her character, she just grows so much through this story. She has not had the easiest time with her career and in my opinion she has not had the support by her boyfriend she needed. I just wanted to yell at him and tell him to get out of her life. Tristan has also been through so much in his life and things that he has had to live up to. He has the weight of the world on him. I felt bad for him but he was so sweet to Samantha. The secondary characters make this story flow and it wouldn't be the same without them. I truly hope that we get to see more of these characters. Find out what happens to Samantha and Tristan. Will they find their HEA? How much will she lose in the process?
This is my second story by Taylor Sullivan and I can't wait to see what she has for us next. Taylor is a mom of three children. She hopes that when she goes out in public that she looks presentable after she is done running after them. Her stories are inspired by the barbie games she played as a child. You will enjoy the fast paced story about finding yourself. It will keep you turning pages and wanting to see what will happen at the end. I highly recommend this story as I know you will want to see what happens to Samantha and Tristan. What will fate have in store for them, will they get their HEA or do they have more to lose then just friendship.

Oh wow! I really loved this book, and this author's writing style. I got so lost in it that when I came to the end it felt like Id only been reading for like 30 minutes but in all reality it had been a few hours. Everything seemed so real and the character building brought them alive.
I loved the friendship between Samantha and Renee and their mutual hate for Renee’s brother Tristan, and the way the author handled the flashbacks were perfect, kinda like a movie, I could see the scenes play out clearly. I felt something was off with Tristan immediately but wasn't sure what it was until the story played out. To me it felt like he wasn't quite living up to the reputation placed on him by his peers. Just a feeling I got that he just wasn't what they were making him out to be.
Samantha was comfortable in her longtime relationship with Steven, and even though she couldn't imagine forever with him she had too much going on to rock that boat in my opinion. She was struggling with her career of choice, dealing with the loss of her best friend who had moved across the country and knew she needed to make some choices in her life, so comfortable in her relationship was what she needed right then. Her first priority though was getting across the country to be her best friends maid of honor in her wedding. Steven came up with another excuse that put what they had down his list of priorities so she ended up heading east with the boy she hates, her best friends brother Tristan. I absolutely loved how these two interacted on this trip, and again I got the impression there was a whole lot more to Tristan then what Samantha thought of him. Watching what happens on this cross country trip was fun and maddening at times and the fear of the impending disaster that awaited them at their destination was handled perfectly, it felt so real! The maid of honor speech/toast had me in tears. You really have to read this book to see what happens, I could go on and on about it but I'm afraid I will give too much away. I will recommend this book to everyone! I loved it and it deserves way more than 5 stars!

Have you ever had a moment where what you thought was true was proven wrong and you get a glimpse of the real thing, if only for a little bit? That's how The Boy I Hate takes place. This was my first book by Taylor Sullivan, and I'm dying to read more now.
Sammie Smiles is best friends with Renee, who has an older brother Tristan. Tristan is the popular football player who has everyone hanging on his every word. But for one day, he was a different person than what the world sees. Now that they are older, they don't get along but must take a cross country trip together for a wedding. What could happen?
This was a funny yet sweet and deep read. Never judge a book by it's cover rings true in this story. Not every smile is real and not every story is true.
I loved these characters and the banter they had. They were the yin to the others yang. I can't wait to read more from this author and maybe get a glimpse into what happens now!

I love reading best friends brother romances, and The Boy I Hate was a heartwarming example of a fantastic, feel good read. Taylor Sullivan is a new author to me, but one I took great delight in learning about.
Samantha and Tristan shared a deep attraction for one another, but it was buried deep. Growing up with Tristan was not easy for Sam, as she had to watch him grow from the sideline while hiding the intense longing to be with him. She owed it to her best friend to not become another besotted faller. Tristan had a magnetic personality that was irresistible and enviable. He was everyone's dream of the perfect man. Tristan was the happy go lucky friend to many and lover to the rest. That was what infuriated Sam the most. Having to watch others with him, while sitting on the sidelines, hating him.
I instantly connected with Tristan's character. I love his bad boy/ don't care about much but myself persona. But Tristan was a very deep character, and it isn't until the end that the true man behind the mystery, is revealled. He had many more layers than appeared, which was very cleverly demonsrated by the way Taylor Sullivan wrote about him. This author was extremely talented in drawing out this story and saving the best for last. Samantha had many positive qualities, but none were more beguiling than Tristan.
Taylor wrote a story that started steady, stayed steady, then BAM! Hit you with hotness, mayhem and a little sadness and heartache at the end. It was written brilliantly and the timing perfect in each scene. The story gained intensity perfectly and kept me glued to each page, and anxious to see what would unfold for Sam and Tristan. And the build up was well worth the wait. An incredible story that I would highly recommend. 4 stars

This is a new adult romance that follows Samantha, a sculptor on the verge of needing to get a traditional job as she comes into contact again with her best friend's brother Tristan. The two have a history from when they were teenagers and being thrown together on a cross-country road trip is a fraught situation.
The story is told alternating with the current day road trip and Samantha and Tristan's current circumstances and their history as teenagers. It's a clever way to do it and works well, but personally speaking, very much not for me. Probably because these people are so far away from my own experience and age that whether the protagonists are 15 or 22, they all feel like infants to me. I haven't read many books in this sub-genre, so I'll have to see if that's an issue with the whole thing or whether this particular instance was egregious.

It's such a sweet story and I loved every page of it. :)
So... Samantha and Renee are best friends, since forever. They initially bonded over their hate for Renee's brother Tristan, that was really popular in high school. People got close to Renee, just to get closer to her brother.
One night, spent with Tristan, changed Samantha's mind. She started looking at him differently. And was really afraid to lose her friendship. So she ended up dating a guy, for like 7 years.
Then was about to be married and when her boyfriend cancels at the last minute, Tristan goes on road trip to New York with her. She made a sculpture as a wedding gift and has to drive it and Renee doesn't want to let Samantha drive alone.
On the trip Samantha realises what she want do to, with her life and love.
One of those stories, where you know, how it will end and you still love the ride to it. :)
It would make a really good movie. :)
