Stephen King has been a favourite author of mine, especially during my teenage/young adult years. Over the years I have kept up with every new release, and enjoyed every single one. So, when The Dark Tower books came up as a reading challenge in book club, I was excited to be revisiting Mr. Kings world.
This is a bit of a western fantasy with sci-fi elements and a dystopian feel- there is action, adventure, mystery, danger, violence, and a touch of the gruesome. In true Stephen King style, the story is fantastically descriptive and detailed- with incredible world building. There are parts of the story that ‘lag’ a little at times, but that didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of the book/s.
Still can count on Mr. King to deliver the goods when it come to telling a great tale!

Thank you, Mr. King!

This was an excellent novella. I read this right after I finished DT 4, Wizard and Glass and I think that there wouldn't have been a better point in the series to read it. I enjoyed experiencing some more of Roland's story on his own as it reminded me of why I fell in love with the series in book 1. It was quite reminiscent of Roland's travels in The Gunslinger. It was also nice to have a satisfying, complete Roland story in under 100 pages!

Great Read!

With this novella I finished my Dark Tower series. This story takes place before Roland draws his ka-yet so unfortunately no Oy, Jake, Eddie or Susannah. Loved Jenna so it was a good but sad ending.

Little Sisters is a short novella that is supposed to give us a glimpse into the world of Roland and the Black Tower. It is promoted as a short that can stand on its own two feet even for those that are unfamiliar with the series. If that is true, then I guess I will be going no further with the series. Ronald fell flat, the views on religion and magic had no appeal, the zombies and vampires both were so poorly described/explained that there was nothing to pull me in. It was a fine time killer for a short airplane flight but also completely forgettable.

I have had my eye on the Dark Tower series for a while now? Should I read it? Is it a waste of my time? My attitude is about the same as what I have thought of the Dresden Files. I finally did start reading those but killed the series only a few books in. This time I am not going to bother.
